Chapter 41
Alfie brushed his lips over Rhys’s shoulder. “I love you. I don’t know how to tell you, or what it will do to our friendship. That is one thing I cannot lose. I think we could continue as friends even if one of us was traded. But, a long-distance relationship…”
No, he couldn’t imagine that ever working. As if Rhys would want something like that.
His actions made it obvious what he did want. Sex. Not anything serious. Well, Alfie did tend to be serious about sex. He’d had sex before he’d met Rhys. It’s not like he didn’t get aroused. He didn’t see why Rhys had to have it with nearly anything that moved.
Rhys didn’t treat it like it was anything that mattered. Alfie could not understand that. Didn’t he realize he was worth more than giving himself to someone who wouldn’t even remember his name the next day.
“I wish you saw what I did when I looked at you,” he murmured in Spanish. Not that it mattered. Rhys’s steady breathing proved he was still sleeping. He wouldn’t have heard Alfie, but no point in taking that chance. He wasn’t sure he could handle Rhys laughing in his face at that sentiment.
He kept his body wrapped around Rhys’s and slipped his phone out of his pocket.
After making sure the sound was turned all the way down—if Rhys really hadn’t been sleeping, Alfie didn’t want to wake him unnecessarily—he brought up his texts with Rosalita again.
She was probably in one of her summer session classes—he wasn’t sure his little sister knew how to take a break—but that didn’t stop him from carefully typing out a message with one thumb.
Alfie
Can’t call. Rhys is sleeping
Rosalita
Did you tire him out or something
Alfie
Shut up.
He said he hasn’t slept.
I don’t know what to do
Rosalita
Stop texting me and cuddle your boyfriend
And when he wakes up, actually TALK TO HIM
Alfie
He doesn’t say anything when he talks
And he isn’t my boyfriend. You know that
Rosalita
Because you’re both a bunch of oblivious idiots.
Just talk to him, Alfredo. I have to get to class
Alfie stared at his phone until the screen went back to sleep. He set it on the table between the beds. And put his arm over Rhys. Little sisters didn’t know anything. Talking wouldn’t do any good. He could at least take this.
