Chapter 30
“Can you provide details about your last three positions, including job titles and responsibilities?”
My eyes narrow at Fox trying to keep a straight face before I reply with no intonation. “Navy SEAL. Sniper. Associate Director of the Agency. At a high level, I ran several tactical teams. Work, classified. Promoted to director. All current responsibilities classified.”
“Sir, with all due respect, we’re all cleared in this room.”
My lip curls in a sneer. “Do you know what I was doing last night?”
“No, sir.”
“Then your clearance damn sure isn’t high enough for you to know what it is I do inside the walls of my office. Now move on to the next fucking question.”
Even as Fox opens her mouth to do so, I’m just grateful my heart rate didn’t fluctuate because last night’s events were definitely not part of the job responsibilities assigned to the director of the Agency. They are, however, the ones I assumed when I tied my life to Bethany’s.
To have and to hold.
From this day forth.
Till death do us part.
“I’d like to circle back to a question I asked you this morning.”
“Go ahead.”
“Why did you kill someone intentionally?”
“Because of my wife, and before you ask, yes. I’d do it again,” I immediately answer.
