Gu Yan and I started out as work buddies.

"This weekend, you're going on a blind date with him."

"No way."
"What's the problem? You're my best friend. You deserve any guy in the world."
She pulled out her phone to call him.
I stopped her.
After some back-and-forth, I spilled the secret I'd been hiding.
"Listen to me first."
"I had a child before. With my ex."
