Chapter 11 The Canceled Engagement
Pei Yuchuan brewed a cup of honey water and wanted me to drink it.
"For sobering up."
I stood without moving. He seemed displeased and walked straight to me.
"If you won't drink, should I feed it to you with my mouth?"
Alcohol amplified emotions.
I looked at him, suppressing hard, using my last bit of reason to order him out.
"Get out."
But he didn't leave. Instead, he grabbed a blanket and covered me.
"Drunk and causing trouble—lie down. I'll massage your temples."
He moved to scoop me up by the waist.
I struggled fiercely, slapping his hand away.
Finally, I couldn't hold back, asking through tears.
"Pei Yuchuan, what do you take me for?"
"You have a fiancée and act like this—don't you find yourself disgusting?"
In the faint light from the window, he looked down at me. After a moment, he said hoarsely, "Finally willing to ask?"
"Wen You, are you a pushover? You bottle everything up, only speaking when pushed to the edge?"
I gripped my sleeves, looked up, and asked, "Asking or not—does it make a difference?"
"Yes."
"If you'd asked earlier, you'd know that long before we reunited that day, I canceled the Marriage Engagement."
I froze in place as he told me.
"Gu Yan just returned home. Many things she heard secondhand. I met Miss Cai only a few times. The engagement served mutual needs back then."
"Once goals met, and she found a boyfriend, we dissolved the Marriage Engagement immediately."
I stared at him stunned, but he suddenly changed topics. "These years, I've treated my ears."
"I went abroad for two surgeries. Hearing improved some. Now, with the cochlear implant, no one notices my hearing issue."
I remembered during the breakup, I said I wanted a normal man, not bound to a deaf person for life.
His expression bordered on despair then.
Now, he removed the cochlear implant and told me.
"Wen You, try talking to me. Get close—I can hear."
He tilted his head, letting my lips near his ear. The pose felt intimate, like a kiss.
The pull of an old flame overwhelmed.
The distance closed abruptly. Under alcohol's effect, my mind blanked.
His scent was sweet and clear. I instinctively wanted more.
My hands wandered uncontrollably over his back.
His breathing suddenly deepened. Pent-up emotions seemed ready to burst from under the surface.
The living room stayed unlit. I tilted my head, seeking his lips.
He gripped my jaw. Through the old TV screen in the living room, I saw him press behind me, turning his head to kiss.
Body heat climbed steadily. The narrow room filled with drunken haze.
Pei Yuchuan seemed intensely restrained. His refined face gained a flush of desire, making my blood boil even more.
I asked hoarsely.
"Do it?"
