Camden
After we had some fun earlier, we both dozed off and took a nap.
We both had been thinking about the need for the intimacy class before we got here, but I feel like we have that covered now.
We might just make the most of spending quality time together without all the expectations of work and the world.
Before long, the burgers are done, and Jess is waking up from the smell.
“Hey, babe, I’ll bring dinner over to you in a minute. Do you want a beer?”
“Yes, please. We have to start pregaming before the festivities. Hopefully it doesn’t become too crazy tonight.”
I really hope she didn’t jinx it. The odds are high that something is bound to happen because it seems like it always does. We could always just go out there for an hour or so, then set off some fireworks on our own. I guess we’ll see what happens tonight.
We both eat, then I clean up before we head back outside.
The perk of having a camper is that we don’t have to sit outside if we don’t want to.
There’s AC in here, so it makes us feel more comfortable being in here.
We don’t want to be cooped up in there the whole time, so we know to find balance and come out here to be in nature.
I bring out a cooler with some beers in it that we sit and enjoy while we’re waiting for the bonfire to begin. To our surprise, a couple comes over and introduces themselves.
“Hey, my name is Ciara, and this is my husband, Brandon,” the blonde lady says in front of us.
“It’s nice to meet you both. I’m Camden, and this is my wife Jessica.”
I turn to Jess, and she has a smile on her face.
“This is our first time meeting anyone here, so I’m excited. I was nervous that we weren’t going to talk to anyone and we would be left by ourselves,” Jessica says.
“I feel the same way. I told Brandon the only way we were going to meet people was to get out and explore the campground ourselves. We also didn’t want to show up to the bonfire tonight by ourselves since we don’t know what we’re in for,” Ciara says.
If only they knew what had gone down in the past years, they would 100 percent not want to go by themselves.
“Why us?” Jess says.
“Well, we’ve been walking around for a little while now, but nobody seemed welcoming.
You both just give off good vibes, and that’s what we need right about now.
I saw something online about some deaths that have happened around here in the past, which made us a little nervous about coming, but we did anyway,” Brandon says.
I’m glad I already told Jess what I found online, or this would have been a horrible way to find out.
“Yeah, we saw that earlier. We’re definitely good with sticking together. We don’t have any extra chairs, but we can go over to the picnic table and chat if you all would like.”
“Let’s do it,” Ciara says.
The four of us head over to one of the nearby picnic tables and get to know one another a little bit more.
It's interesting seeing that we all live in the same town, an hour away.
This seems like a coincidence, but none of us is complaining about it.
It honestly is nice to make friends that we can hang out with when we get back home.
We've been talking about finding couples around our age to do double dates with, but we have never been successful. This looks like it’ll be a good opportunity moving forward.
We get lost in talking before we realize it’s time to head over to the bonfire. We’re all a little nervous about what’s about to come, but we know we’re going to make the most of it.
“Are y’all ready to head over to the bonfire?” I ask, looking between everyone.
“As ready as I can ever be,” Ciara says.
I look over to Jess, and she nods like she’s ready to go too.
We grab a couple of beers to bring with us and set foot over to where the bonfire is set up.
From what we can tell, there aren’t too many people here, so we find seats and make small talk with others around the fire, when that eerie feeling creeps back in.
