Chapter 23 #3

“I was ready to die. And I planned to take Gioele and Lurch with me. The knife I hid in my sneaker, I retrieved it and said, “Bruciare all’inferno. Burn in hell.” I slid the blade across Gioele’s neck.

I moved quickly, leaning forward, I slammed the knife into the bully’s legs again and again.

He turned, aiming the Glock at me. I ducked to the side, and the bullet missed me.

I had to get to his upper body. I stared him in the eyes and brought the knife down on his chest repeatedly. ”

I’m back reliving that moment at my childhood home. “You tried to kill us,” I cried.

Someone said in the distance, “It’s over, Serenity.”

It was Big Lux, my bodyguard. I was put into a psychiatric hospital after that.”’

I lock eyes with Nico and press two fingers lightly to my temple. “I’m not all there.”

His hand cups my face gently. “You’re perfect just as you are.”

I squeeze my eyes shut. “I’m not meant to be in a relationship.”

Nico pulls me into his arms. “Don’t say that.”

“You have to find a wife who can give you what you need.”

“Serenity, there’s no other woman for me.”

“You think that because we’re from the same world.”

“That’s enough, Serenity,” he roars.

My ex-boyfriend doesn’t want to listen to reason.

Nico nuzzles my ear. “Relax.” He holds me in his embrace, calming me until I fall asleep.

Sometime later, I open my eyes and blink a few times, adjusting to the dark.

This beautiful man holds me against his muscled frame like if he lets go, I’ll run.

My fingers move over his torso, and I slip a hand into his boxers.

I slide down under the blanket, free his hard dick, and suck the head like it’s a lollipop.

His wonderful dick jerks in my mouth. Fingers curled around his thick shaft, I move my head faster, taking him deeper into my throat.

“Serenity, baby,” he groans.

I smile inside at the way this man responds to me.

“Get up here,” Nico’s voice is thick with sleep.

I emerge from under the blanket my wavy hair standing all over my head.

“Ride my dick, baby. I want to come inside your pussy.”

I grin in the dark as I slip out of my PJs. Nico discards his boxers and undershirt in a flash. He sits up. This man who’s carved from stone places his hands on my hips and holds me in the air. My pussy hovers over his dick.

I love how he can hold my thick frame effortlessly.

“Grab my cock, princess and guide it in.”

“Gladly,” I purr.

Why did I think sickness could keep me off this man’s good ass dick?

Nico lowers my body slowly. I feel every inch of his length. Once he’s buried inside my walls, I push at his hairy chest until his back hit the mattress. My palms press against his chest as my breasts and ass move faster.

“It’s so good, Nico.”

“That’s right. This is the only dick you’ll ever have again,” he says as he leans up, grips one of my globes, and sucks my nipple.

“Ouch,” I say pushing him away from my tender flesh.

He fists my long hair, exposing my neck. “This is my pussy, Serenity. Fucking forever.” He bites my neck forcing a cry of pleasure from my throat.

My pussy walls squeeze his dick as my orgasm rips through me.

“The best dick,” I yell.

“Damn right it is. And its only yours.”

I sink my teeth into his neck as he unloads his cum inside me.

Our chests rise and fall as Nico sinks back onto the mattress taking me with him.

As we try to catch our breath, we lie there the smell of sex heavy in the air.

Nico reaches over and flips on the lamp.

He pushes my hair out of my face. “It’s time to tell our families we’re together.”

My heart races in my chest. Fighting the tears I swallow past the lump in my throat.

My fingers reach up and caress his clean-shaven face.

“Baby, I can’t give you what you want. If I hadn’t went through that terror at fourteen and watched a man kill my unborn sister in my mother’s womb, I could. I can’t have children.”

His brows raise. “What do you mean you can’t have children?”

“Nico, I refuse to bring a child into this shitty world. Especially our mafia world.” Another tear escapes. “I love you, Nico. But I’m sorry I can’t be the woman who sits beside you on the throne. Mr. Nico Pitucco, you’re a ruthless mafia boss.”

He flashes that devilish smirk. “You’ll be my wife, Serenity. Even if I have to drag you to the altar.”

“You’re crazy,” I say.

“That makes two of us doesn’t it?”

Nico pulls the blanket over us and dozes off.

A week later, I sit in the exam room on the white paper, dressed in the ugly blue gown. My doctor insisted I give a urine sample since I missed my period. I told her there’s no way I’m pregnant. I always take my birth control pills.

There’s a knock at the door. “Coming in, Dr. Laurel” announces before walking in.

She steps closer, smiling as she takes my hand in hers. “You don’t have the flu, Serenity,” she pauses. “You’re five weeks pregnant.”

My eyes widen. “That’s impossible. There must be a mix up.”

“No mix up,” she says.

I rub my forehead. “I’ve always taken my birth control.”

“Birth control is only ninety-nine percent effective.”

“All right, I need to figure out what I’m going to do,” I say.

“Come back next week and you can hear the baby’s heartbeat.”

I smile. “Thank you, Dr. Laurel.”

“You’re welcome. I hope to see you next week,” she adds before leaving the room.

I learn this a day before my birthday. What am I going to do?

Choking down more tears, I scream into my hands.

There’s a knock at the door, then it opens. “Are you all right?” Fitz asks.

“Yes, yes. I’ll be out in a moment.”

He nods and closes the door.

I pick up my phone and tap the contact.

The phone rings.

“Hello Serenity.”

I push back the sobs again. “Hello Grandmama. How are you?”

“I’m doing well,” she replies.

“That’s good.”

“Serenity, what’s worrying you?”

I inhale a sharp breath. “Too much.”

“Tell me what’s going on.”

“Is it possible I tell you in person?”

She gasps with excitement. “Absolutely. We’ll celebrate your birthday. And you can stay as long as you like.”

I exhale. “Thank you.”

Before I leave that exam room, I restructure my life.

There’s no way I’ll have an abortion. But adoption sounds like a better solution. It will be a sealed adoption. No one can know who the parents are. I push down the thought of my beautiful man who loves me so much. If I think about him, I’ll cry a river of tears.

Once I’m dressed, I slip my dark sunglasses over my eyes and step out the exam room.

“Are you good boss?” Fitz asks.

“Yes, we’re going to the airport.”

Twenty minutes later, Javier rolls to a stop on the tarmac in front of my family’s private jet.

“Thank you both for your loyalty. I’m going away for a while. My father is aware. You both will work for him until I return.”

“We can come with you,” Fitz says, sorrow heavy in his gaze.

Javier peeks at Fitz. “We need to respect her wishes.”

Javier’s trying to be strong. I can tell he hates this last minute change. He wants to keep me protected forever.

Javier glances over his shoulder. “Whenever you need us, we’ll be there.”

I squeeze both their shoulders and kiss their cheeks. “Thank you.”

I climb out of the SUV and run across the tarmac into my mother’s arms.

“It’s going to be okay, baby.” I tremble against her as the cold wind cuts through my thick winter coat.

I’ve filled my parents in on my pregnancy, trusting they’ll keep my secret.

She steps back slightly. “Here’s your passport.”

I wrap my fingers around it. “Thank you.”

“I’ll see you soon, Serenity. We’ll catch up when I arrive, all right?”

“Sounds good. Love you, Mom.”

“Serenity, I love you too.”

With only the clothes on my back, I board the plane. I’ll purchase a new wardrobe once I’m in Florence, Italy.

I settle into the soft leather seat and fasten my seatbelt. Watching the world blur beneath me as the jet climbs higher, my mind drifts to the final night I shared with Nico. It was earth shattering. I’ll miss the one man I’ve ever truly loved.

“Goodbye, Nico,” I whisper as tears stream down my cheeks.
