Chapter 13 #4
Leaving my husband with his friends, I make my way around the reception. Kay is right behind me with a tray loaded down with goodies. I munch on a few delicious hors d’oeuvres as I make my way toward guests. My security detail hangs back a little giving me space.
I dip into the house for a while to use the restroom, freshen up, and relax.
An hour later, I reemerge, waving at the mafia wives en route to the bride and grooms table. It’s time to eat an early dinner. “Dancing and drinking soon,” I yell.
The wives sit around two large round tables.
“You know it,” Ryah shouts back.
Nico stands near my chair. I sink into my seat and he pushes me closer to the table. He leans into my ear, “Don’t you ever tell me you’ll die soon.”
“Nico…”
“No, Serenity,” he growls.
Nico lowers into the seat beside me.
I meet his gaze. “We need to really talk, Nico.”
“We’re leaving in two hours. We’ll talk on our honeymoon.”
My brows raise. “Honeymoon?”
I’d heard about this honeymoon but I figured I’d give him shit about it.
“Yes, we need a week to work out our shit,” Nico admits.
The servers place our plates before us.
“Did Colby Jack call you today?”
“He called yesterday. I don’t have my phone on me. So I don’t know if he called today.”
“Make sure you tell that asshole you’re a married woman now. There’s nothing to talk about with him.”
“Oh yeah? That’s odd, Lucy said she’d be your goomah.”
He chuckles. “What did you tell her?”
Its my turn to lean into his ear. “I told her all those times I tried to kill her in the past were just warnings. If she doesn’t walk away she’ll sit in my torture chamber.” I inch back.
A cocky smirk lifts his handsome lips. “I love when you put women in their place.”
I shake my head. “Nico, we’re married and I won’t entertain other men. I take my vows seriously.”
Nico nuzzles my neck. “You don’t have anything to worry about. I won’t entertain other women.”
His hand caresses my waist. The fire in his cognac eyes tell me he wants to move his hand lower but can’t because of all the tulle.
Our family and friends toasts to us throughout dinner. My heart drums in my throat throughout the day. Due to the powerful people at my wedding any of our enemies could strike.
Nico eats dinner with one hand, keeping his other wrapped around my waist. This is his way of making me feel safe. Being so close to him makes me realize how much I suffered without him.
“Mr. and Mrs. Pitucco its time for your first dance,” the DJ announces.
Nico takes my hand, leading me to the dance floor. I drank about four glasses of champagne today so I’m feeling good. I swing my hips to the beat as we inch closer to the dance floor. Our guests clap and whistle.
Nico pulls me into his arms then swings me around the dance floor. Our guests go wild. Uncontrollable giggles bubble up inside me.
Nico smiles. “That’s what I miss.”
“What?”
“Your laughter.”
I caress his jaw, inch up, and press a kiss to my husbands soft lips. “Nico,” I moan.
“After we cut the cake we’re out of here,” he mutters.
“I can’t wait.” I smirk.
“But I need to see the girls before we leave.”
Nico and I sway to the beat again. “Right after this song ends go over and see them.”
This is one of the happiest moments of my life. Yes, I avoided Nico. Clearly this possessive man wouldn’t let me go. Now here we are married for eternity.
I sashay over to the mafia wives. “Ladies,” I yell as I pick up a whiskey on the rocks off the tray Kay presents.
“Mrs. Pitucco, welcome to the club,” Carmen shouts.
I smile from ear to ear. “Thank you!”
It feels good being around badass women who know how it is to be in the mafia. I may have asked Nico during dinner about Ryah. She’s biracial like me and Baylor. She runs her family’s business with her husband. And she’s been through a shit ton of danger. Ryah’s been shot at and more.
Ryah steps closer tapping our glasses. “How does it feel to be Mrs. Pitucco?”
Her honey brown curls dangle over her shoulders and her beautiful golden brown eyes light up.
“It feels surreal. I mean Nico had warned me over the years that he’d punish me by making me his wife. It won’t be all bad.” I glance across the yard at my husband.
“He’s the only man I’ve ever loved. I was just too stubborn to give in to him. So he forced my hand.”
“Rocco would’ve dragged me down the aisle kicking and screaming. That man would’ve tricked me into saying yes,” she chuckles.
“I know he’s staring at me. Whenever we’re in close proximity he stares like I’m the only woman on the planet. He’s the love of my life.”
“That’s so beautiful,” I yell over the music.
Baylor’s head lands on my shoulder as she loops her arm through mine. “That’s so sweet. We’re married to the most murderous men but when it comes to their wives their gentle and loving.”
“Gentle?” Nadine laughs. “I like to be choked while I come.”
My mouth drops open and my eyes widen.
Emoni slaps Nadine’s hand. “Girl me too.”
“It’s nothing like being choked.” Kennedy runs her tongue over her painted lips. “Sometimes I push him over the edge just so he’ll fuck me harder.”
All the wives surround me now. Their laughter tells me this is the norm.
“You all talk about your sex lives?” I ask.
“Absolutely. It’s so freeing.” Carmen flashes a wicked grin. “I can’t wait until our next zoom call.”
I clear my throat. “Does Samantha share her sexual experiences with Jacob?”
The girls laugh again.
“Yes, she is the ring leader,” Sierra admits.
I place a hand over my cleavage. “When is the next zoom call?”
The wives run around laughing.
“We got another one,” Lexis yells.
They slap hands happy with themselves.
Claire grins. “I was the same way. You will love the zoom calls.”
“I thought it was crazy that the wives got together and discussed their sex lives, then I joined the wives in Sierra’s chamber.” Kinsley flashes a wicked grin. “I love the zoom calls and the get togethers.”
“After I drop this baby, I’m definitely coming to Sierra’s chamber.” Baylor grins.
“Sierra, I want to come too,” I blurt out.
“We’d love to have you.” Sierra smiles.
“Thank you,” I reply.
My gaze meets Lexis’s. “I had no idea you had your own catering company. The food is delicious.”
A big smile lifts her mahogany cheeks. “I’m happy we could accommodate your wedding on such short notice.”
I throw my arms around her neck. “I know you’re a busy woman. I’m very grateful you did this for me.”
She squeezes me tightly. “Sierra told you. We ride for each other.”
I step back. “I’m so happy to be a part of this family,” I say honestly.
They clap and cheer.
“We’re happy to have you,” Sierra admits.
“We look forward to your Donna ceremony,” Emoni adds.
“Me too.” A smile lifts my cheeks.
How did I get so lucky to be welcomed into a sisterhood?
For the first time I don’t feel like the weight of the world is on my shoulders. When I return from my honeymoon, I’ll tell the wives everything.
