INITIAL HUSBANDRY ROUTINE PLANS
Upon confirmation of seemingly viable embryo via custom-built candler, further preparations were made for hatching, namely on the side of NUTRITION and HOUSING.
NUTRITION
Meat substitutes ordered from MagiZoopreme consisted of mule deer (Odocileus hemionus), bobcat (Felis rufus), hobcat (Felis goblinus), mountain lion (Puma concolor), peninsular bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis cremnobates), valley quail (Callipepla californica), lesser meadowphoenix (Avisignis insignificans), channel catfish (Ictaclurus punctatus), and bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus)
Initial diet approved by the Otherfolk Ethics Review Committee at University of Sylvania Imperial (Cock) School of Magizoological and Veterinary Studies. Approval granted to adjust diet as needed, based on V-2’s appetite and development upon successful hatching.
HOUSING
Attempts were made to find owl-bear nests in surrounding areas, with no success.
Due to lack of information on owl-bear nest construction, a decision was made to look at nests from species of comparable size and physiology, including the silver dragon (Draconis Georgicus) and Eurasian sphinx (Sphinx sphinx).
A circular nest three meters across was constructed using primarily fallen branches from surrounding area, as would presumably be opportunistically gathered by nesting local owl-bear.
Supplementary nesting materials include mosses, leaves, and grasses (FIG.
A) Once hatched, V-2 will be transferred from incubator into the nest.

For climate control, post-incubator nest was equipped with a solar-powered heating pad in the lining, as well as a heater placed inside a life-size adult female owl-bear replica plush doll (FIG.
B) which will sit in the nest alongside the hatchling.
The plush doll is designed to match the owl-bear suit (FIG.
C) being utilized by scientists to interact directly with V-2 while limiting desensitization to People.
Hopefully if owl-bears do indeed form an imprinting bond, imprinting on the suit will carry over to the near-identical plush replica, which will then provide a sense of safety and security to cub-chick while in nest.
