Chapter 23 #2
They’d tortured her simply because they couldn’t get Mythic.
I knew that was what was bothering him the most. They did all this to her simply to get back at him.
I also wanted to believe they put her in that shack because they knew Mythic would find her there.
They wanted him to be the one to find her.
She had several STDs, which were all curable.
Thank God. She had digested feces, which I was sure they’d shoved in her mouth.
Nasty muthafuckas. Every time I thought about everything she’d gone through, I would cry my eyes out.
Not only was I hurting for her, but I was realizing that it could have been me had my family not been proactive by having Watchful Eyes look after us.
When Shani released me from her grasp, Nesha said, “I’m going to be praying for her. You think maybe Karima could get her to speak?”
“It’s possible. Karima has the gift of the Holy Spirit, that’s for sure. Plus, they’re friends.”
“Yeah. Well, in other news, they are pouring your slab, girl.”
My eyebrows lifted. “Already?”
“Yeah. What’chu mean already? We don’t fuck around.”
I giggled and slowly shook my head. “I swear, you been around those niggas too much. You starting to talk like them.”
She laughed. “Hell yeah. They’ve rubbed off on me. Well, I gotta go to Beaumont to the courthouse. I’ll talk to y’all later.”
“Okay, Nesha. Thanks.”
When she left, Ashanni came and sat next to me again. “I know you’ve been seeing to Mythic, so I know you haven’t heard.”
I frowned. “What?”
“The twins are into it again. Bali said that Noni isn’t sacrificing, she’s changing who she is because of Red Squared.
Girl, they making me tired as fuck. I told Asad to talk to his brother.
I kind of agree with Bali. If she ain’t who he wants her to be, why he fucking with her?
It makes me think he only wants her because Carter is with Bali.
He needs to accept her for the way she is.
If she knows something she does bothers him, she’ll change it on her own, not because he demands it. ”
“Damn. I hate that. I have an appointment with Noni for her to go over my lab work tomorrow. Maybe we can get to the bottom of things. It’s so much going on. I’m tired, Shani.”
“I know you are, boo. They know too. That’s why they been bothering the fuck out of me and Milana.
Bali loves being in control and bullying people to make them do what she wants them to do.
I thought Noni was the same way, but as I think back, most times it was Bali initiating shit and her going along with it.
She still mean as hell, but I don’t think she’s as bossy as Bali.
I don’t know. The whole situation is on my nerves.
Bali needs to just let her do what she thinks is best. They should have learned that shit after you and Mythic. ”
I chuckled. “What is Daddy saying? Does he know?”
“No, but Bali threatened to tell him. Hell hath no fury like a natural disaster unrestricted. Total devastation will come to Nome when Uncle Mayor exceeds a cat five. He was close to that with you and Mythic. Although he was emotional, he was secluding himself so nobody got fucked up.”
“I don’t know, Shani. Daddy Mayor is really soft when it comes to us.
You know that. He was more hurt than angry.
Now, if Noni tells him she’s being mistreated, then yeah.
He will fuck Nome up tryna get at Red Squared.
However, if Noni convinces him that this is something she wants to do, then he’ll fall back. He’ll definitely be watching though.”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.”
I took a deep breath and tried to get back to work as she went to her desk when the bell rang.
Someone was at the damn door. Aunt Chas went toward it, only for my mama to walk in with a hobbling Seven behind her.
I rolled my eyes. That nigga had been on everybody’s last nerve.
He was so damn spoiled. He’d been whining for a week straight about being cooped up in the house.
After he got through the doorway, I noticed Iesha behind him.
She had to be the real deal if she could put up with Seven.
I swore they were going to be Storm and Aspen reloaded.
She was helping him get his crutches situated, and so far, the nigga was quiet as hell.
The way he stared at her after he was situated, though, made me lift my eyebrows.
Iesha’s face reddened and she turned her attention to us and smiled.
“Hey, everyone,” she said excitedly.
“Hey,” we all said in unison, clearly all in shock.
“Hey, y’all,” my mama said. “I wanted to bring Iesha to the office so y’all could meet your new graphic designer for Henderson Ranch and Farms. She’ll also be working with me on Nome News and other projects we may come up with.”
“Iesha, you’ve already met Maui, but that’s Ashanni and her mother, Chasity.”
“Nice to meet you, boo,” Shani said.
Iesha nodded with a huge smile on her face. She seemed so genuine. I glanced to the side of her and saw Seven just standing there quietly. I frowned slightly and interrupted their conversation.
“Iesha must got that ass in check, because you quiet as hell,” I said as Ashanni hollered with laughter.
“Yeah, that nigga over there mild as fuck!” she added.
Seven smirked slightly, then shot us the finger. “I ain’t in the mood for y’all bullshit. Go do what y’all getting paid to do, before I file a complaint with Uncle WJ. But before y’all get back to work, come here, Maui. I need to talk to you about something.”
I rolled my eyes and made my way to him as he sat in one of the chairs. I sat next to him and stared at him as he tried to get situated. “Naw, I don’t need no help,” he said sarcastically. “Triflin’ ass.”
“Nigga, what do you want? Like you said, I have work to do.”
“I know who the DNA belongs to.”
I frowned. “What?”
“They found five strands of DNA, right?”
“Yeah.”
“Three are dead, they arrested one, and the other is unknowm. I know who it is.”
I frowned. “How do you know that, Seven?”
“Do you wanna know who the fuck it is or not?”
“Who?”
“Mythic’s baby mama.”
My eyes widened. Her ass came to the house the other day to drop off Caleb and sat for an hour of it talking. She was extremely friendly. “Naw, that can’t be right.”
He shrugged his shoulders dismissively. “Do with that information as you will. She was seen with that nigga Eric when Treasure first went missing. I can promise you, it’s her ass. Niggas like to run their mouth.”
“Like you?”
“The difference is, I be knowing what the fuck I’m talking about and be running my mouth to get results. I’m a smart-ass nigga. Don’t forget that shit.”
I sat there stunned, not knowing what to do. Mythic wouldn’t believe she was involved, but maybe he would check into it anyway. “You think Watchful Eyes could verify it?”
“Possibly. Ali is outside.”
I nodded and went to the door. When I opened it, he was standing there and smiled big, causing my face to heat up. That man was so damn fine, and I didn’t go for light brights. “What’s up, lil mama?”
“Umm . . . Seven gave me some info that I was wondering if you could look into.”
He frowned slightly, then looked around. He approached me and asked, “What kind of information?”
“He said Mythic’s baby mama is the missing DNA.”
His eyebrows lifted. “I can look into it. What’s her name?”
“Vanessa Lawrence.”
“I can get it, then I’ll follow up with the Liberty Police Department.”
“Thanks,” I said as he walked away with his phone in his hand.
When I went back inside, Seven was staring right at me. “He said he can get it.” I dropped down on the seat next to him. “That’s gon’ fuck Mythic up.”
“Yep. I’m just glad he ain’t sticking his dick in random pussy no more. When you ain’t careful, that’s the kind of fuck shit you get. Ask Jacob.”
I side-eyed him. I swore he had no fucking filter. I didn’t care to talk about Mythic’s past with women. He fucked around as most of their asses were still doing. I could see him shrug his shoulders again from my peripheral. Turning to him I asked, “How’s your leg?”
“It’s healing as it should. I should be fucking up the streets in a couple of weeks.”
I rolled my eyes and stood to walk back to my desk, but turned to him, and said, “Thank you, Seven.”
He nodded and gave me a slight smile. He got on my fucking nerves, but we all had each other’s backs. Always. I just hoped Mythic didn’t totally lose it on me when I relayed the information he gave me.
