Bits of Book 4 Hot Rod.
Nita raised her chin just a bit then she looked the two older men in the eyes and explained it, “My name is Nita Rivers. I’m not here on behalf of the Sanchez family but I’m here to witness their destruction. It’s been coming and needed for several reasons and I want to be there when it happens.”
“Why?” Bouncer asked her. “Why do you want to see it up close and personal like? That doesn’t make any sense unless you got a grudge against that family?”
Nita snorted. “A grudge? Yeah, you might call it that. You see, Gabriel Sanchez took one look at the woman who became my mother and decided she would fill his bed that night.” She shrugged.
“Her opinion on the matter didn’t matter, he dragged her off and while she fought he did the deed anyway.
She fought him the best any woman could and when she walked away she was bruised and bloody when he finally left.
My aunt also informed me that he didn’t come back until the night I was born and that’s when he made his mistake.
He filled out the birth certificate. He named me after his mother.
He gave me her name and his last name. He put Bonita Sanchez on my birth certificate and the next morning my mother asked about the certificate and the nurse told her it was already filed. ”
Then men in the room all listened quietly as she went on.
“She never went to court, never tried to change it, she just took me home and tried to live her life. Then five years later, the state went after him for being a dead-beat dad. That’s when Gabriel found her again.
He hatefully wrapped his fingers around her neck and snapped it.
He didn’t listen to her trying to tell him that she didn’t demand the support as she knew he wouldn’t pay it, but because he signed the certificate he let the state know he was my father.
He wouldn’t listen to reason. Nooo, not Gabriel Sanchez, he just killed her with his bare hands and walked out.
He didn’t even look for me. He never knew I saw what he did.
” She stared at the floor then and went on to say, “When I heard that Gabriel got himself blown up by his own brother I felt nothing but relief. To me though, the worst part of that was that he never felt the bomb go off, he just evaporated. The only part I regret is that he didn’t feel it.
So now I came here to watch the rest of his family get blasted. ”
Bits of Book 5 Ironman...
Bouncer crossed his arms over his chest and looked directly at Lily. “So honey, why did you walk away when the shooting started?”
Lily slowly shook her head. “I am so not your honey, your sweetheart or your baby. Don’t you disrespect me like that.”
Bouncer shook his head. “Not disrespecting you. Just asking a question.”
Lily stared at him and she looked disgusted. “I walked away because I was done with him.”
“Him?” Ironman asked.
“My father,” she spoke quietly. “The devil who made me who I am, who I will always be.” She looked around the room.
“Que? You didn’t think I could read the situation?
You think I didn’t know what was going to happen today?
” Shaking her head she added, “I could read exactly how far my father would push this. I know he wholly expected Joel to come in from the back while flying his plane and catch you all unawares. He expected to find your compound blown to hell so he would get no resistance to coming through the front door. He never imagined in his lifetime that Joel might fail. That thought would never cross his mind.” She shrugged her shoulders.
“He never expected Ricco to be dead either. He knew his son was wild and crass, but he never thought he would take the coward’s way out.
He should have known Ricco would wimp out if there was no other choice to be had. ”
“You said earlier that Ricco knew Gabriel was in that bar,” Titus said. “You said he knew and he blew it up anyway. How are you so sure he knew?”
“Ricco had his own man check inside the bar and his man told him Gabreil was there and Ricco still blew it up,” Lily assured them.
“This man is loyal to me as I saved his family from being killed by Ricco. He told me what happened. Then Ricco left town before the police notified my father. He also knew what my father Eduardo would do when he found him. I believe that Ricco didn’t want to die by Eduardo’s hand.
He knew Eduardo would take his own sweet time to kill him and that was Ricco’s greatest fear. Eduardo’s rage.”
“Why would your father do something like that?” Ironman asked.
Lily turned her head and said, “Because Gabriel was his favorite from the time he was born. Gabe was his firstborn and my father thought the sun and moon rose from him. Ricco was his second born and Eduardo always made him feel second best.” She shrugged.
“Me? His thirdborn was a disappointment all the way. I was a girl and he didn’t have time for a girl.
But he didn’t forget me. He just trained me to become a ruthless killer.
When I was fifteen, he began training me in hand to hand combat.
He taught me to use a knife, a handgun and a rifle.
If I missed my mark on the range, he would put me in a ring with a professional fighter.
I wasn’t allowed out until I defeated the fighter. Sometimes I won, sometimes I didn’t.”
The room went silent as if shock had hit them.
That afternoon...
“I see that they believe that I am a brujah. A witch...you know? I suppose that I cannot blame them.” Lily shook her head.
“They will see what I do,” Ironman told her. “It will just take them a while.”
She looked up at him. “And what do you see?”
Ironman sighed and explained, “Someone who wants and needs a new life. To leave all that in the rear view. Live life the way you want to live it. Believe me, I know how that feels.” He stood to take Lily’s arm.
“Where am I going?” she asked him.
“To the saferoom where the ladies have been staying. Crank, I mean Nolan is there with Ursula and his daughter, Reno.”
She stepped back. “No, I wish to see this battle. I have to stay here.”
“Me too. I need to stay with my sister,” Canto added. “This is our future at stake here too.”
Ironman looked over at Titus.
He nodded at him.
Ironman moved Lily back to where she could sit and see the video feed on Jep’s monitor. Turning, he picked up his rifle and headed toward the door.
“Where are you going?” Lily called to him.
“To see if I can get an actual bead on this Tomas. I can maybe get you started on that new life.”
Lily stared at him as tears filled her eyes.
Canto stared at her in surprise.
Lily looked away and studied the monitor. Her eyes widened as she gasped. Shooting up from her chair, she ran as fast as she could to where Ironman was opening the door.
With a leap, she slammed into him, pushing him to the side just as a loud crack rent the air.
Ironman looked confused as his large body hit the door. He turned to see Lily slide to the floor, blood covering her chest.
“Nooo!” Canto shouted.
