Chapter 6 – Kai
B eing a scare actor ain’t so bad. I get to dress up, scare the absolute shit out of people and just have a grand ol’ time. Grand opening was roughly a week ago and I killed it.
The others did too, but people come to see the creepy scarecrow actor. I’ve heard people talking. I’m the main show runner. I’m not just saying that to be cocky either or stroke my ego. Everyone has been saying it.
I walk into my trailer to start getting ready for my shift tonight. We were told tickets sold out again. I can’t wait to scare a ton of people. I actually enjoy my job.
I get my makeup applied but this time I add some fake blood to my face and costume. It was time to add more horror elements to my costume. Grungy, dirty, and more bloody.
Once I’m satisfied with my look I head out of the trailer. The ceremony is the same as last week. Nothing really new standing out except some of us looking scarier.
I’m fixing to head back to my trailer. Tonight, I don’t start the first two hours. I get to relax in my trailer while I wait for the switch off. When I make it back to my trailer, I see Liam leaned up against it. I wonder what he wants.
“Hey man,” Liam starts. I cross my arms as I look at him. “Do you mind switching areas tonight?” He asks. “Sure, that’ll switch things up.” I say. He chuckles. “Sweet man.” He fist bumps me.
He grabs a drink next to my trailer. Storms Brewing. I smile, remembering a moment when I visited Lana and she actually talked to me. “What drink do you get from there?” I ask. He looks at me.
“I don’t actually know what it’s called. Lana ran into me and spilled her drink. I was curious what she drank, so I tried it. It was actually really good.” He says.
I narrow my eyes at him. That’s Lana’s favorite drink. He didn’t even bother to memorize it? “It’s a hazelnut iced cappuccino.” I say. “Oh yeah. How did you know that?” He asks. “Lana and I go way back.” I say.
“That’s really cool. She’s an amazing actress.” He says. I roll my eyes. “Well, I better go freshen up my contacts they’re already getting dry.” I shrug past him. “Okay, man. Thanks for switching areas tonight.” He says. “Uh huh.” I respond.
I shut my trailer door behind me so I don’t have to see his stupid ass face. What kind of dumbass would work with an amazing woman like Lana and not remember her fucking coffee order? It’s the easiest coffee order on the planet.
No one deserves her but me. I know her coffee order. Storms Brewing has always been her favorite. For as long as I can remember. I pull my yellow contacts out. I decide to switch it up. I grab my darker pair.
They’re dark. Almost black. That would be better considering the area change. I put some eye drops in my eyes. I’m going to put them in when it gets closer to the two hour mark.
Around the hour and a half mark, I get up. I took a little nap to pass the time. I walk back to my vanity. I touch up whatever was necessary on my makeup, which wasn’t much, I actually liked that it was kind of smudged added to the effect.
I go ahead and pop in my darker lenses. I pull my hood up. I’m ready to work in a new area tonight. I honestly wanted Liam’s area when we first started, but oh well. My area in the park isn’t shit, I just liked the general location.
Liam’s location is close to the mirror maze. And around there, I think not too far is the haunted house and a few other attractions. It’s a really good area.
I walk out of my trailer to head to the park. I am really excited. New area means new victims to scare. New tactics. Ways to surprise people.
I make my way through the park. The banshee is still running around shrieking. She’s the most dedicated scare actor I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t imagine the vocals it takes to scream like that. All weekend.
I cringe. She probably sounds like she smokes three packs of smokes a day. That’s the other thing, I can’t smoke as often as I would like. It ruins the illusion if the scare actors smoke our boss said. What a crock of shit.
I walk around and sneak up behind people. That’s what gets them. The silent scarecrow that comes out of nowhere. That’s the part I play. I only speak when necessary. When tactical scares aren’t enough.
I just walked past the mirror maze when across the way I see a person walking, someone I think I know. I walk closer, scaring a couple people in my pursuit to see who this is.
I see her look to her side in her peripheral. Lana. No fucking way. I was hoping she would end up here. Now to see if she remembers me. I run up on her. She doesn’t see it coming. I pin her up against the wall.
Oh, Lana, how I missed you, babe. Portland wasn’t the same without you.
