Chapter 18 – Kai
L ana left my house in a hurry. I get it, she doesn’t know if she’s working tonight. I plan on taking her to the International Rose Test Garden.
During one of my shifts back then, I overheard someone at Spencer Gifts mention that they have dark roses. They look black, but in the sunlight they’re almost a maroon purple color.
Lana deserves roses that look as beautiful as her. I just hope my plans work out. I have a feeling she’ll probably have to work tonight though.
Oh well, there’s always tomorrow. I have work tonight too. I enjoy working at Midnight Mayhem. I’m just glad she actually showed up last night. I wonder what made her decide to come by.
It doesn’t really matter too much though. She’s mine now. I just need to persuade her. She’s always been mine, she just didn’t know it. She will know now.
I pull my knife out of my dresser. The one from last night that I used to ‘threaten’ Lana with. It’s a beautiful engraved dagger. I saw the way it aroused her. I want to see that look on her face again. I didn’t scare her. Maybe she’s into knife play.
I put it back in my dresser alongside some other toys I will be using on Lana. My phone rings. Shaken out of my thoughts I go answer it. “Hello?” I answer. “Hey, Kai I know this is last minute, but can you come work for a few hours?” My manager, Kelsey asks.
“I have work at Midnight Mayhem tonight.” I reply. “I know, I’m asking you to work from one to five if you can.” Kelsey says. I think about it. If Lana is working on her movie tonight, I won’t have anything better to do.
“Yeah. That’ll work.” I say. “Thank you so much, Kai.” She hangs up and I start getting ready for work. I pull out a band t-shirt, black jeans and some accessories.
I walk into the bathroom and do minimal styling to my hair. It’s a shaggy mess but Lana likes it. I put my silver hooped earrings on. I pull my shirt on and pull my pants up.
I add a chain to my belt loops. I’m pretty much good to go now. I look around for my car keys and find them on top of my dresser. I put my shoes on and then head out the door. Time to go to work.
I drive to Lloyd Center to go to my other job, Spencer Gifts. I still work there. Ember quit a while ago. She works at Hot Topic, also in Lloyd Center. I don’t mind still working here. I knew Midnight Mayhem would be a seasonal job of course.
I pull into the parking lot and make my way inside. I get to Spencer Gifts. Kelsey is at the counter, inputting inventory on a sheet. I walk in. Kelsey looks up, “Thank you so much for coming in, Kai. I really appreciate it.
“No problem.” I say. She smiles at me and continues to do inventory. “Can you put those boxes of t-shirts away?” She asks me. I nod and pick up a box.
There’s got to be at least fifty shirts in a box. I fold them up and put them away in there respective cubby holes. I put away at least two or three boxes away. It took me two hours. Kelsey hands me the hook. She wants me to take down some of the displays, which I do.
I put up some of the new merchandise up per Kelsey’s instructions. She gives me a couple more instructions before I am able to go home after my mini shift.
“I appreciate all of your help, Kai.” Kelsey tells me as I clean up before leaving. I leave Spencer Gifts. On my way back outside Lloyd Center, I happen to walk next to Hot Topic.
I have some time to kill before work. I walk inside. I have only been in here maybe once since they opened. Now I just go in to see Ember occasionally after my shifts. Today she’s not working so I actually have time to browse.
Hot Topic is similar to Spencer Gifts. They sell a lot of the same stuff except you can tell it’s for a younger audience. No scandalous merchandise to be found here. It’s still cool, gives you more options for band tees.
I don’t find anything, so I walk back out and head outside to find my van, so I can head to work early. I get into my van and make the drive out to Midnight Mayhem.
I make it to Midnight Mayhem at around six thirty, my shift starts at seven. I change into my costume. I sit down at my vanity and I take my time putting my makeup on. Once I finish up, I pull out my fake blood and splatter it on my face, neck and costume. I also decide to splatter it on my scythe.
I lace up my boots and get ready to head out of my trailer. Time for my shift. I wonder if Lana will show up again. Guess we will see.
