Epilogue #2
We walk for a little while longer until we hit a small clearing in the field.
She spins in a circle, arms stretched out on either side as she drops her head back and closes her eyes, her laugh vibrating with pure joy.
I haven’t seen her smile in the last two weeks, so my heart skips a beat at the view before me.
This is it. This is the perfect moment.
I hurry to grab the box from my pocket and drop to one knee in front of her, box in hand as I wait for her to stop twirling and look at me. It takes her a few more turns until she’s out of breath and has no choice but to stop. Her hands fall to her side as she breathes heavily while still giggling.
She slowly brings her head back down, smile still plastered against her lips. That is until she notices me down on one knee. Her smile drops, her mouth hanging open as her eyes widen. She doesn’t move, doesn’t blink. It’s like she’s frozen in place.
“Emma Charlotte Mackenzie,” I start, but my voice seems to snap her out of her statuesque state.
She gasps loudly, hands flying to her mouth. The next thing I know, she’s throwing herself at me, causing us both to tumble to the ground. “YES! YES! YES! A thousand times, yes!”
I laugh as my hands wrap around her waist and hers go around my neck. “I haven’t even asked the question yet.” I’m lying on my back as she lies above me.
“I don’t care. The answer is yes! Now show me the ring!”
She pushes off and kneels in front of me as I sit up.
I bring the small box between us and open it slowly.
She snatches it from my hand the minute the ring comes into view.
A huge flower-shaped engagement ring glitters back at her.
Or maybe it’s a snowflake? I’m not sure.
All I know is that it’s big, looks like a flower, and made me cry when I saw the price.
When I walked into the store, I had no idea what to get her.
So the nice lady started asking me questions about Emma and how we met.
She claimed she could find the perfect ring just by knowing a little about us.
The next thing I knew, I was chatting their ears off, telling them our whole story from start to finish.
By the end, they all had this sappy, lovey-dovey expression on their faces.
Which confirmed that our story is a good one.
The lady then went off for a few minutes and came back with a few choices.
But I didn’t need to look at them all, because right there in the center was the one.
The moment my eyes landed on it, I knew it was perfect for Bunny.
It’s extreme with a big round diamond in the middle and a spiky flower-shaped halo around it with little diamonds going down each side.
In my opinion, it seems a little too dramatic, but that’s why it’s so perfect for Em.
When she told me the price, I nearly had a heart attack, but there was no way I would leave without it. So I paid up with tears in my eyes, and now that I see the look on Emma’s face, I know it was worth every penny.
She gasps loudly. “OH MY GOD! Greyson! It’s perfect!” She clutches it to her chest then looks at it again. “Where did you hide it?” I knew she would ask that question.
I chuckle. “In my truck.”
“Damn it! I didn’t think of looking there.” She frowns for a split second but then smiles again as she presses the box into my chest. “Put it on me! Put it on me!”
God, this girl.
I don’t even know why I bothered making a huge speech.
I should have known she would never give me the time to say it.
I take the box from her hands and pull out the ring as she holds her trembling hand out in front of me.
I go to place the ring onto her finger but stop just before it touches.
She huffs out with a groan while I smirk.
“What are you waiting for? Put it on!” she practically snaps at me.
All I do is smile as I watch her get more and more irritated by the second. “Will you let me ask the question now?” I raise a brow.
“Ugh! Yes! But hurry up. No big speech. I already know how much you love me. Just ask, I’ll say yes. Then put that damn ring on my finger already!” She talks rapidly with an eye roll.
I laugh, then clear my throat. “Emma Charlotte Mackenzie, will you marry me?”
“YESSS!” she squeals.
I slip the ring onto her finger, and she throws herself at me once more.
“Oh! I love you! I love you! AHH! I can’t believe I’m going to be Mrs. Ford!” She nearly bursts my eardrum with how squeaky her voice gets.
“Believe it, baby. Because by Christmas, you’ll be my wife.”
“You were serious about getting married near your parents?” She watches me with huge eyes.
“I was. Our wedding is booked for December 23rd,” I tell her.
She pushes off me, her expression serious. “Greyson. That’s like five months away! I can’t plan a wedding in five months!”
“You can. And anyway, most things have already been picked out thanks to the girls. Only waiting for your approval. But there’s something else I’d like to ask you.”
She blinks a few times, probably wondering what else I could possibly want. “Okay…”
I palm the side of her neck, thumb gently rubbing against her cheek. “I want you to adopt Gracie.”
“Oh, Grey…” Tears start pouring from her eyes as she nods her head vigorously. “Yes. It’s all I want. That and to marry you.” She wraps her arms around my neck for the third time. “I love you, Greyson,” she says before claiming my lips passionately.
“I love you too, Emma.”
We make out like two horny teenagers, starved for each other until we have no choice but to come up for air. We rest our foreheads together, eyes closed and breathing heavily.
It’s crazy how much my life has changed in the last year. How unexpectedly things came into my world. I went from a playboy bachelor with not a care in the world to a protective father to the most wonderful and beautiful little girl.
Then to a man undeniably in love with a woman I never saw coming. In the matter of eight short months, my life was flipped completely upside down in the most extraordinary and amazing way I ever could have imagined. And I hope it stays that way forever.
“My Wolf,” Emma whispers against my lips.
I press my lips to hers once more, never getting enough of her before whispering it back.
“My Bunny.”
