Chapter 34
A Place in His World
Monday morning arrived with unexpected news.
Aarav was having breakfast with Kabir before school when his phone rang.
He frowned slightly after reading the message.
"What happened?" Anaya asked.
"I have to leave for Jaipur."
"For work?"
He nodded.
"Just one night."
Kabir looked up from his cereal.
"Can I come?"
Aarav smiled.
"This trip isn't very exciting."
"I'll make it exciting."
Anaya laughed.
"I believe him."
Aarav thought for a moment.
Then looked at Anaya.
"What if... both of you come?"
She blinked.
"What?"
"I'll be busy for a few hours, but the hotel has a garden, a game room, and a children's activity center."
Anaya hesitated.
"It feels like I'd be disturbing your work."
"You wouldn't."
He answered so naturally that she couldn't argue.
"I'd like you both there."

The next afternoon, they arrived in Jaipur.
Kabir immediately pressed his face against the hotel window.
"It's huge!"
Aarav chuckled.
"I thought you'd like it."
The staff greeted Aarav respectfully.
"Welcome back, sir."
As they walked through the lobby, Kabir tugged at his father's hand.
"Everyone knows you."
Aarav smiled.
"I work here sometimes."
Kabir looked around with wide eyes.
"So... you're the boss?"
"One of them."
Kabir stared for a second before whispering,
"That's kind of cool."
Aarav laughed.
"Don't sound so surprised."
"I thought you only came to our house."

While Aarav attended meetings, Anaya took Kabir to explore the hotel.
They visited the indoor play area.
The rooftop garden.
Even the small library.
Everything was going perfectly.
Until a little girl accidentally fell while running.
She started crying immediately.
Before Anaya could reach her, Kabir was already beside the child.
"It's okay."
He offered her his dinosaur keychain.
"You can hold this until you stop crying."
The little girl sniffled.
"Really?"
Kabir nodded.
"My dad says sharing makes people smile."
Anaya froze.
Her eyes automatically searched for Aarav.
He wasn't there.
Yet somehow...
His kindness had already found its way into Kabir.

Later that evening, Aarav finished work earlier than expected.
He found Anaya and Kabir sitting in the hotel café.
The moment Kabir saw him, he ran over.
"Dad!"
Without thinking, Aarav picked him up.
"Did you have fun?"
Kabir nodded enthusiastically.
"I made a friend."
"That's great."
"And I gave her my dinosaur."
Aarav smiled.
"That was kind."
Kabir shrugged.
"You always say kindness comes back."
Aarav looked surprised.
"I say that?"
"You say lots of things."
Anaya smiled quietly.
Some children remembered toys.
Kabir remembered values.

That night, after Kabir fell asleep in the hotel room, Anaya and Aarav sat on the balcony overlooking the city.
A warm breeze drifted through the air.
The lights of Jaipur stretched endlessly below.
For a while, neither spoke.
Then Aarav broke the silence.
"I've been thinking about something."
She looked at him.
"What?"
"I want to tell the family."
"About Kabir?"
He nodded.
"They deserve to know."
Anaya's expression became thoughtful.
She wasn't afraid of his family anymore.
Especially after meeting his grandmother.
Still...
"It's a big step."
"I know."
He looked at her.
"We'll only do it when you're ready."
Not when I decide.
Not it's my right.
When you're ready.
She noticed the difference.
And appreciated it.

The next morning, before checking out, Kabir disappeared.
Again.
Both adults panicked immediately.
"Kabir!"
They searched the hallway.
The lobby.
The restaurant.
Finally, they found him near the reception desk.
He was standing on a chair, talking to one of the employees.
Anaya sighed in relief.
"What are you doing?"
Kabir turned around happily.
"I was thanking everyone."
Both adults blinked.
"What?"
He pointed toward the smiling hotel staff.
"They were nice to us."
The receptionist laughed.
"He came all by himself just to say thank you."
Aarav looked at his son with quiet pride.
"You remembered your manners."
Kabir nodded.
"You taught me."
As they walked back to the car, Aarav gently placed a hand on Kabir's shoulder.
"I'm proud of you."
Kabir looked up.
"Really?"
"Very."
The little boy beamed.
That smile alone made every difficult day of the past week feel worthwhile.

On the drive home, Kabir fell asleep in the back seat.
Anaya looked out of the window for a while before speaking.
"You know..."
Aarav glanced at her briefly.
"What?"
"I used to think your world would change him."
Aarav's expression grew serious.
"And now?"
She turned toward him.
"Now I think..."
A soft smile appeared on her face.
"...he's changing your world instead."
Aarav looked at his sleeping son through the rear-view mirror.
Then smiled to himself.
She was right.
Completely right.
The empire had made him powerful.
But that little boy had made him a better man.
And somehow...
That felt like his greatest achievement.
