Unmask Me
Chapter 1
Devon
I was taught from a young age to take what I wanted. Things weren’t always handed to me. I had to earn them, or take them.
I’ve proven myself time and time again to get to where I am today. Taking was easy for me. If I wanted something, I’d have it.
And now that includes her.
I sit back and watch her when she thinks no one is paying attention. I’m always watching like a hunter after its prey. She’s my prey, and one day I will have her. She just doesn’t realize that yet.
“You got a thing for that one?” Wyatt asks me as we sit in the cafeteria, eating our lunch.
“Does it matter?”
“Yeah, it matters. You know Colt likes her, too,” he informs me. Now I drag my gaze over to his and eye him hard.
“What the hell does that mean?” he chuckles.
“It means, Colt is going to ask her out,” he replies. I drag my gaze back over to her and smirk. He can ask her out. Hell, they can even enjoy an evening out together if it comes down to it, but he’ll never be a match for me, and I know it. I can give her the things she never even knew she wanted.
“He doesn’t stand a chance,” I mumble under my breath.
“You don’t think so?”
“Nope. I know things about Caydence that no one else knows,” I tell him.
“Like what?” Now I look back over at him and smile.
“You think I’d tell you and let you tell Colt? No. Let them have their fun because I’ll make sure it all comes to an end.” Wyatt laughs and shakes his head before going back to his meal. Me? I turn back to her and watch her. Always watching her.
You might think that since we’re in college, it would be harder for me to keep an eye on her, but that’s not the case here. My father owns this college. Which means I’m the fucking God of this campus. It also means I can tap into the cameras anytime I want, and I do. To find her.
One of her friends says something to her, and I see her turning her head in this direction.
That’s when I lower mine. She doesn’t know me except from what she hears around campus, I’m sure.
But I have plans for her. Plans she will never see coming.
And that’s the point in all of this, isn’t it? To shock her. To wow her.
I shove myself up from the table and toss my trash before making it a point to walk right past her. I hear her friends laughing and talking about me, but I keep walking. They don’t know just how deep into this girl I am. How long I’ve watched her, waited for her.
I take the first right and head for the offices to have a chat with Dean. She doesn’t like me much, but out of respect for my father, she deals with me.
When I make it to her office, the secretary tries to wave me off, telling me she’s busy. I know she isn’t.
Ignoring her, I walk past and storm into her office, knowing she wasn’t doing shit but sitting there.
“Devon?”
“Miss Santorn.”
“What do I owe the pleasure?” she asks, trying to be polite when that’s the least of what she wants to be.
“I need a favor of sorts,” I tell her.
“Which is?”
“Caydence Bowmen. I want her tuition wiped clean.” Now she chuckles.
“I can’t do that.”
“Why not?” Fine. I’ll play into her little charade if that’s what she wants. She’s going to do what I tell her regardless.
“That isn’t something I’m able to do,” she tells me.
“Pull it up, Doris,” I demand this time. She jolts a little at hearing her first name coming from my mouth. She clears her throat and types on her computer.
“I see it, I just can’t do it.”
“What we’re going to do here, Doris, is wipe out all of her tuition. What she’s already paid is going to be refunded to her,” I explain calmly as she looks up at me.
“Devon,” she begins, but I cut her off.
“No, don’t Devon me. I’m here for one thing only, and that is to get this handled,” I tell her.
“Your father-” she starts, but again I stop her by raising my hand.
“My father may like to know what you get up to in your off time. Or who you get up onto during school hours, Doris. I would hate for you to lose your job for fucking one of the professors,” I inform her.
Her face pales as she looks at me, unsure what to say.
Slowly, she lowers her head and starts typing on her computer.
After a brief silence, she looks up at me and nods.
“It’s done.”
“See? Was that so hard?”
“Blackmailing me now, Devon?” she asks. I know her and my father are close, but she’ll never be family to him the way I am.
“Is that what we’re going to call it? I’d prefer a little favor.”
“It’s blackmail, and you know it. If your father finds out … ” she trails off.
“What? What’s going to happen?”
“I could be fired.”
“You won’t be. I’ll take the blame for it, and I’ll get a little slap on the hand. Nothing more.”
“You’re such an entitled little shit,” she sneers at me. I raise my eyebrow at her choice of words.
“Damn, Doris. I didn’t think you had it in you.”
“This is wrong, Devon.”
“No. It’s fine. Everything is exactly as it should be.”
“Are you going to do this every time you find a new girl to stalk?” she hisses at me. I chuckle now.
“Doris, I am shocked. I can’t believe you think so little of me,” I laugh.
“Your father has told me enough about you, Devon.”
“Has he? Then I’m sure he’s also told you that I always get what I want. And if I want you gone, Doris, then you’ll be gone. Remember that.” With that, I stand and saunter out of her office.
Could I have gone into the files myself and done all this? Of course, but it’s more fun to watch her squirm.
