Chapter 3

Chapter Three

~Her~

Halo felt great. Nothing of the cold remained, and fire flowed through her veins. She was invigorated. She pulled away and smiled at him. Reaching a warm hand up, Halo lightly caressed his icy cheek.

“I know you,” she murmured again, hazy from the magic now coursing through her veins.

It was crazy! She knew in her mind that magic didn’t exist, but her heart told her a different story.

The energy coursing through her was otherworldly.

It sparked inside of her, the equivalent of a couple gallons of her grandpa’s battery-acid coffee energizing her. She felt she could move mountains.

“That day…” Halo trailed off, her thoughts suddenly on other matters when her fingertips halted their trek at his lips.

Almost without thought, she leaned forward, pressing a kiss into him.

A small moan bubbled up from the depths of her core, and her deepest instincts took over.

Repressed desires surfaced and directed her fingers.

Halo’s hand snaked around the back of his neck, and she pulled him forward as she lowered herself completely to the fur blanket.

No longer feeling the numbness from the storm, her knees fell open, allowing him to draw closer, touching his bare chest to her damp shirt. The shyness she wore as armor for years abandoned her.

Her passion seemed to infect him, and he pushed her shirt up with a growl, finally allowing a more powerful skin to skin contact. As his fingers traced invisible patterns up her taut, honey-colored flesh, a fire ignited within her, holding the chill radiating from him at bay.

The perfect balance of elements at play.

His lips broke free from hers, exploring a wandering path down her neck.

He stopped every so often for a nip, biting down hard enough to elicit pleasured groans from her.

Her spicy heat seared across his tongue, and he left patches of frost in his wake.

Frostbite. In any other situation, it may have wounded her, but now, it melted away harmlessly in the eye of their passion.

Halo pulled him up, planting a kiss on his lips once again. The fire within her demanded more, and she grazed her teeth hungrily against his jawline.

The rasp of stubble brought her back to her senses enough that she pushed him away and jumped from the bed.

“What am I doing?” she cried out, beginning to pace. The man from her dreams lay flat on his back staring at the ceiling and fisting the blanket beside him, and all she could think about was how hard she worked to avoid a situation just like this.

Well, not exactly like this. But she’d always been sensible when it came to men. Be friendly but aloof. Don’t let them distract you. None of them ever really caught her interest, and she secretly judged those girls who abandoned everything for a man.

Apparently, she just didn’t understand, because now, she was ready to give up everything to be with this man who practiced magic and haunted her deepest desires.

She’d never told anyone about seeing him in the woods, not even Gran, and she was regretting it as even now she ached to launch back into his arms.

“This is insane!” She continued her circuit, mumbling about her gran and what she’d think.

She pulled up short, hearing herself for the first time. She doubled over as though struck, and her breath rushed out of her in a whoosh. Gran would wiggle her eyebrows lewdly and ask about the sex. Her grandparents were never shy about love.

Love?

Her heart kicked into overdrive and her pacing became frantic. She never even associated the word with someone who wasn’t family or just a friend. What the hell was going on with her?
