Chapter 11

Chapter Eleven

~Her~

Dim light filtered in through the lace curtains as a floorboard in the hallway creaked. Halo smiled over at the slumbering form of Frost and traced her fingers along the path of bites he left on her last night.

Frost bites.

She internally giggled at her pun and replayed every delicious moment from their lovemaking. She read it might hurt, but she felt nothing but pleasure the whole time. The magic bond between them had grown, syncing them in a way she didn't know was possible.

His contentment and joy washed through her like the delight of a child catching snowflakes on his tongue, and as they climaxed together, each time, she felt his pure love fill her. It was intoxicating.

The door slid open, and Gran stepped into the room with a grin plastered on her face. A devilish glint sparked in Gran's eyes, and Halo laughed. As Grandpa always said, Halo came by her mischief honestly. Frost stirred beside her, and Gran stood there patiently, waiting for him to wake.

Halo snorted when she caught the edge of his horror through their new bond.

"Good morning, Gran," she said sweetly.

Most people would be embarrassed to be caught in their position, but her grandparents were somewhat hippie-esque. Halo walked in on them more than a couple of times as she grew up—they liked to be adventurous with their passions in all rooms of the house—and knew she had nothing to be ashamed of.

She was raised with a healthy respect for nature and a down-to-earth view of sex. She hadn't stayed a virgin out of some misplaced sense of prudence, but because no one ever truly caught her interest. She now knew she had been waiting for Frost.

He squirmed under her gran's scrutiny, and Halo rolled her eyes.

"Gran, this is Frost. He's an elemental, oh and by the way, did you know magic is real?

Anyway. We just met, and I know it probably sounds insane, but he's the love of my life, and I'm bonded with him.

That's like being married only more." Halo took a breath.

She had a tendency to word-vomit when she was excited.

"But we can discuss all of this once we've gotten dressed. He’s practically your grandson now, so I hope you’ll love him as much as I do. "

She raised an eyebrow at Gran, who just smirked.

Turning to Frost, she was caught off guard by the scrutiny on his face. "Frost? Maybe you can help me explain the magic stuff? I don't really get it all yet, myself." His expression didn’t change, and testing their bond, she felt waves of suspicion roll off him.

He shifted his gaze to her, and his pale blue eyes practically glowed with humor. "Oh, love. I don't think we'll be needing to explain anything."

Confused about his response, hurt flowed out of her heart and into his.

He shook his head and kissed her with a rueful smirk.

"You misunderstand, Halo. Your gran already knows much more than we'd be able to explain.

" He shifted his focus to the older woman and raised an eyebrow in challenge. "Show her."

Halo turned an inquisitive gaze back to her grandmother. Smiling, Gran held a hand out toward them and shrugged. "Sorry I kept it from you, hon."

Halo jumped back into Frost's arms, forgetting about her nudity in the face of what her grandmother held.

Dancing in her open palm was a flickering orange flame.

Winking, Gran tossed it from one hand to the other as though it weren't fire!

Shaping it into a ball, she tossed it to Halo, who caught it more out of habit than a desire to keep the bedding from bursting into flames.

She stared, open-mouthed at the dancing flame cupped in her hands. Awe-struck, she reached for a tendril of Frost’s power and stretched the tiny inferno into a thread of fire in between her fingers.

"Well." Halo cleared her throat, finding her proverbial footing. "That explains a lot."

The rumbling laughter from her mate spilled out and through her. "Oh, my love. The magic chose well."
