My ass stings so badly I struggle to sit, and the way his lips twitch tells me he knows it too.

I sit forward when I realize we have a guard on the gate of our property. “Where did this come from?” I point in the direction of the gatehouse.
“Storm Enterprises.”
“Huh?”
“A security service I have a contact in common with.”
My mouth gapes open.
Not once have we had security like this, not even after … I shake my head, refusing to go there.
“Has there been a threat?” I ask, and my heart begins to race.
He scans my face before pulling to a stop outside the mansion.
Then his finger strokes my cheek in a tender action I’m unaccustomed to, and I find myself leaning into his touch. “No. It’s all just a precaution, with your father spending so much time away from here. Besides, I wouldn’t let anything happen to you.”
The air between us thickens, and my eyes dart to his lips. Then, when I look into his hazel eyes, he’s focusing on my lips too.
“I don’t understand,” I whisper.
He drops his finger, severing the feeling growing inside me, the atmosphere between us, and the connection I seem to crave.
“Go inside, Little Brat.” His voice is velvety, almost like a plea. This time, I do as I’m told, but I don’t want to.
