Chapter 73

MASSIO

The SUV speeds up, heading straight toward Thea, but she doesn’t appear to register it. All she is focused on is my betrayal, and who can blame her?

The SUV swerves away from a parked car, and the car’s driver presses his horn. When my gaze flicks back to Thea, her eyes snap to mine.

They tell me everything I need to know.

She’s leaving me.

I never deserved her.

My heart thuds, and guests wail like a warning siren.

But I don’t see anything but Thea and the look of sheer agony etched on her pretty face.

Her pink hair floats up, her small frown disappears, and her eyes flash with terror as the SUV throws her small body up in the air like nothing more than trash.

My reactions switch off. In all my years of training, I’ve never not reacted.

I stand frozen to the spot, unable to move as her body thuds to the ground. The SUV screeches away, and my girl’s eyes are locked on mine, the life in them is gone, with blood trickling down her face.

But she’s no longer here.

Was someone so precious and perfect ever truly there?
