Chapter Five #3
Instead I stand there, frozen, pulse hammering, breath uneven, watching her in a way I know is too intense.
Shae says something cheerful, something about being ready to go, but I barely hear it.
All I can see is Mara. All I can feel is the shift in the air around us.
All I can think is that I am fucked, completely and utterly fucked, because she has no idea how much power she holds in this moment.
And suddenly I don’t know how to hide it anymore.
I take one step, then another towards her, her gaze sharpens on my approach, her body going rigid as I climb the steps before her, her eyes take in my outfit, her gaze pausing on my hands, my forearms, on the exposed ink and memory of the pleasure that I gave her earlier this afternoon, a smirk curls on my lips as I close the small area between us.
“You look fucking lethal Bunny.” I whisper in her ear, the scent of her filling my senses and crushing the earlier panic that I felt.
Her breath hitches for a moment, her hand resting on my shoulder to steady herself as I lean in to whisper again “Deadly, beautiful, mine.” I growl into her ear.
Her cheeks pink slightly as she pulls back, sliding her arm through Shae’s, Jace falls into a calm step beside me. “They look nice, don’t they. Suddenly I feel a little under dressed.” Jace says gesturing to his linen shirt and pants, I stifle a chuckle and walk to the car.
I open the door for Mara, letting her body slide past me as she climbs in, my gaze starting from the platform heels she has on, sliding up to the exposed curve of her hip, my mouth dries.
Mara
————————
He looks lethal. Sharp in a way that makes the air around him feel charged.
Deadly in a way that has nothing to do with violence and everything to do with the way he carries himself.
His fitted shirt stretches across his chest when he inhales, the fabric pulled tight over muscle that shifts beneath it.
His sleeves are rolled to his forearms, exposing the tattoos that wind across his skin, intricate lines and shapes that draw my eyes before I can stop myself.
They look beautiful on him.
They look intentional.
They look like they were carved there to warn people not to get too close.
“Thank you.” I mumble at him as I get comfy in the seat, he slides in beside me, closing the door behind him. Jace rounds the car and climbs in after Shae.
I lean back in the seat, the pre-drinks from before already warming me, completely oblivious to the rambling beside me as the driver takes us to the club.
Once we arrive, Kade steps out, offering a hand to me. I look up at him briefly before taking it, climbing out of the car.
“Such a gentleman.” I quip at him with a smirk, his eyes dance with mischief as he takes my hand in his, interlocking our fingers.
I can’t help but blush at the mundane sense of all of this, like he hasn’t been my shadow, like he hasn’t been following, watching me for god knows how long.
Like he wasn’t the psycho that left a vial of broken, bloody teeth wrapped pretty in a box for me.
I tighten my grip on his hand and stride towards the doors, my hips swinging as I walk with purpose.
The bouncer watches us all as we approach, his glasses concealing his eyes, who the fuck wears shades in the evening.
I stifle a sarcastic comment and plaster a fake smile on my face, the bouncer eyes me up and down before stepping aside and letting us in, his gaze follows me after we get inside, I notice Kade pick up on that, and he looks positively murderous at the reactions I incite.
“You know you can’t beat the shit out of everyone that looks at me.” I whisper to him, he flashes me a feral grin “No but I can certainly try.”
I shake my head and walk over to the bar, letting my hand slip free from his.
I wave the bartender over and order drinks for everyone.
We all spend a little time in the booth before Shae has a hold of my arm and is practically dragging me to the dance floor, I reluctantly follow, my feet aching already from the heels I’m not used to wearing.
“I love this song!” She squeals as she starts to dance, her posture relaxed, carefree.
I try to sway to the beat, but my steps feel clumsy, unnatural.
I knock back the rest of my drink, letting the alcohol loosen my muscles and try to feel the music, getting closer to Shae and following her moves.
After a while I feel like the space between us and everyone else has gotten smaller, bodies bumping into me, couples practically fucking in the middle of the dance floor, the smell of alcohol and sweat overwhelming my senses.
A pair of arms snake their way around my waist and a very clearly drunk voice slurs in my ear “I’ve been watching you for a while, dance with me gorgeous.
” The stench of cheap alcohol washes over me and I struggle to hold back a gag, I turn to face the man and push him off of me, my eyes take in the sleazebag in front of me.
Dirty blonde hair, bright blue eyes, the asshole barely looks legal and is already trying to take advantage of vulnerable women, I know Kade is close, watching and it’s only a matter of time before he gets his hands on this guy.
“If you value your life, you’ll step back and fuck off.” I warn him, the asshole takes it as a ‘try harder’ and grabs me again, pulling me against him, something presses into my thigh and I actually gag this time.
“Get your fucking hands off me, god you’re actually hard.
That’s disgusting.” I shove him back again and he ends up flat on his ass, his eyes angry, his posture rigid as he screams at me “You filthy fucking whore, imagine dressing like that and pretending you don’t want to get yourself fucked in the alley outside. ”
My blood runs cold.
Not cold in a way that I’m afraid, cold in a way that I want to skin this fucker alive right here and now.
“Get up.” I snarl at him, surprising myself with my tone of voice.
He struggles to stand, swaying and nearly ending back on the floor multiple times.
I plant my heel into his hand as his palms plant on the sticky dance floor to stand, a sharp hiss of pain escapes his lips.
I lean down just close enough that he can hear me over the thumping bass.
“If you ever try to put a fucking finger on me again I will end you right here. Do you understand?” I whisper in his ear, his eyes widen in fear.
I stand and brush myself off, stalking back towards the booth I was sitting in earlier, I slump down next to Jace and grab another drink from the table.
I eye the long line of shots before me and raise an eyebrow, grabbing one.
I lock eyes with Kade and knock it back, my face stark as the alcohol burns my throat, I instantly pick up another.
“I saw that asshole.” My hand freezes
“I also saw what you did to him.” An appreciative smile spreads across Kade’s face, I raise an eyebrow as he leans in “That still isn’t going to stop what’s going to happen to him, but good job Bunny.”
My face pales a fraction as I lean back, stand and get as far away from him as possible.
