Mia's POV

The doors slammed shut, their heavy echo rolling through the vast stone corridors.

For a long moment, I stood frozen, heart pounding against my ribs, the silence inside the chamber almost deafening after the storm of whispers and gasps.

I'd done it.

I had looked the Lycan King in the eye and refused to bow.

My knees wanted to buckle, but I forced myself to walk; slow, steady.... toward the exit.

Every step felt like a challenge hurled at the walls themselves.

I would not let them see me shake.

Outside, the corridor swarmed with pack members pretending to go about their duties.

Their eyes, however, betrayed them.

Some stared with open curiosity, while others did so with thinly veiled hostility.

I caught fragments of murmured words as I passed.

"The Luna who stands..."

"...she defied him..."

Each syllable struck like a pebble against glass, small but dangerous.

The pack thrived on strength.

Some would admire what I'd done.

Others would see a threat that needed to be removed.

I held my head higher

Let them whisper.

The twins inside me kicked faintly, a silent reminder of what I was truly fighting for.

Daniel's POV

I watched her leave.

My Beta lingered near the side wall, eyes narrowed with something I didn't like - respect, maybe even fascination.

The wolf in me snarled, furious at the attention directed toward the woman who carried my heirs.

"She challenges you openly," Michael said quietly once the echo of her footsteps faded.

His tone was neutral, but the words carried a deep meaning.

"It stirs the pack. Some are... impressed."

"Impressed?" The word scraped out of me like a threat.

Michael didn't flinch, but he lowered his eyes. "Strength commands loyalty. Some will see her as more than a servant now."

A muscle jumped in my jaw.

That was precisely what I feared.

Power, once recognised, was a spark. And sparks could burn down kingdoms.

"Double the patrols around her quarters," I ordered.

"Any wolf who speaks her name with too much admiration will answer to me."

"Yes, Alpha."

But even as Michael left to carry out my orders, I knew patrols would not contain what I had unleashed.

Her defiance was wildfire, and my own wolf, traitorous beast, wanted nothing more than to watch it spread.

Mia's POV

Night felt heavy over the pack lands, stars like cold fire above the endless forest.

From the small window of the room Daniel had ordered for me, I watched torches flicker along the perimeter.

Guards paced in disciplined patterns, but their presence brought no comfort.

They weren't here to protect me.

They were here to contain me.

Still, a strange calm settled in my chest.

For the first time since being dragged from my old pack, I felt... alive.

Every cruel whisper, every harsh order, every bruise on my heart had led to this: the moment I stood before the most feared creature alive and refused to bend.

The old Mia - the servant girl who kept her eyes on the ground - was gone.

Whatever came next, I would not let my children inherit her silence.
