“Ifound the schedule online. If you get there at four, West Coast time, you could time it for right after she takes the stage.” Nix shows me her phone screen.

She got back just as we were stepping out of the house, about to jump to Dread’s cabin, wherever that is.

I lift my shoulders. “Go big or go home, right?”

Vameer tips his head as he looks down at me.

I smile. “It means going all in. Full force. All or nothing. That sort of thing.”

“Go big or go home.” He hums. “I like that motto.” Volik makes a scoffing noise that Vameer ignores. “We might be close on time. If your druid isn’t home, can you see if May is presenting tomorrow too?”

Nix shakes her head. “Today’s the last day of the conference. But to save the jump, I can just call him and see if he’s free.”

Volik turns to Nix. “Dread?”

“Yeah.”

“I did not know he carried a phone.”

She snorts. “If you’d carry yours, people might give you their number.”

For once, I stop myself before I bite my lip and just press them together so I don’t laugh at the indignant look on Volik’s face.

Nix puts her phone to her ear.

As it rings, I take in the forest around us. The glass front of the house built into the small hill. And the aboveground pool in the yard that couldn’t look more out of place.

A moment later, Nix speaks. “Hi, Dread. Yep, it’s me.” She laughs at something, and Volik sighs loudly. “Yeah, that’s him.”

“Druid.” Volik raises his voice. “Come meet my brother.”

Nix grins. “Uh-huh. That brother.” She hums. “We’re at home. And in need of a couple portals if you’re free.” She hums again. “That’ll work.”

Volik crosses his arms as Nix hangs up. “He is coming?”

In answer, a crackle rips through the air a few feet off to my side.

I jump at the sound, bumping into Vameer as a man with glowing gold eyes steps through a black rectangle outlined in sparkling gold light.

They told me what to expect. But seeing it is a whole different thing.

And as soon as he’s through, the portal behind him disappears, and his eyes stop glowing.

My eyes are already wide, but my brows lift as I take him in.

They failed to mention what the druid looks like.

Long dark hair pulled back. Taller and more muscular than most humans. Wearing nothing but a pair of loose pants, showing off lots of tattooed skin. And what can only be described as a battle ax is strapped to his back.

I dart my gaze to Nix.

She bites down on a grin when we make eye contact. Confirming that yes, this man, like our mates, is wildly attractive.
