Volik
Ifollow Dread through the portal. And I see them.
Laid out on the dark forest floor. Chest to chest. Like I once was with Nix.
I move to Vameer and Rune.
My brother and his mate.
I am not sure I ever appreciated how much Vameer hums with power.
But with him like this, still, silent, it is like he does not exist at all.
I kneel down next to my brother. And I see the reason for the blood.
The cut.
It is no longer bleeding. But it is still open.
Unhealed.
I lift my gaze to the druid. “When?”
“Their hearts stopped minutes before I got you. They landed here minutes before that.”
I stare at the slice stretching all the way across Rune’s throat. “What happened?”
Dread shakes his head. “A dagger. That’s all I know.”
I swallow as I look at my older brother. “What can we do?”
“I did what I could.” Dread drops down and sits in the grass. “But saving a half-turned mate is not something I’ve done before.”
I shift and lower myself beside Vameer. “Then we wait.”
