Dread
The body, drained of all its blood, thuds to the floor.
“You know his name was Johnson, right?”
Vameer shrugs as he licks the mix of blood and venom off his lips. “I know.”
A huff of humor leaves me. “Still want me to ditch the body?”
“If you don’t mind.” Vameer nods, then picks the corpse up by the shirt.
One hand is missing, dissolved by a single drop of vampire venom. And his neck is smoking where the venom is still burning through.
Vameer hums. “One second.”
“Take his clothes off too. That’ll be better for disposal.”
“Copy that.” Vameer takes the item he wants and tucks it under his arm, then rips the clothing off the corpse.
He uses his gravito to pull the shoes off. One still has a foot inside it. But with all the blood sucked from the man’s body, it doesn’t bleed.
Making a face, I let my magic twist around Johnson so I don’t have to touch him, then I flick a portal open.
Gripping my golden rope, I drag what’s left of Johnson through the portal.
Daylight greets us as we fall on the other side.
I push my magic, and the body, away from me. Open a new portal. And drop straight through, feet first. Landing back in the living room seven seconds after leaving.
The smoke alarm is blaring, the pile of clothing is now ash, and Vameer is standing there. Like nothing is amiss.
I roll my eyes and open a new portal. “Let’s go.”
