Chapter 50
Volik
The low-hanging clouds hide my arrival as I drop myself onto the roof of Bates Hall.
I have been away from my Nix too long already. So I did not waste the time jumping to the edge of town and walking.
And, as I look down, I know I made the right choice.
Press.
People with cameras.
Agendas.
They are just standing there, on the sidewalk, the closest they can be to this building, talking amongst themselves.
But they are waiting for Nix.
They are not outside the admin building where I work. They are outside Nix’s building.
The control I held on my gravito during the jump here slips, and the building groans.
Nix and I will make our statement soon. But this…
This is unacceptable.
A part of me acknowledges that my heart rate has been steady all day. Nix was not stressed. Most likely was not accosted. But I do not care.
I do not care about reason.
I only care about my mate.
Ma Fleur.
A tall iron fence circles university property, running alongside the sidewalk where the press is situated. But the fence is symbolic, decorative, with openings every couple hundred feet.
It is not security.
And I do not need an opening to get from here to the reporters.
Picking a spot high in the air, I jump.
Then, when I am over the street, I redirect my power down.
