Chapter 105

The Dean Henry

Voices increase around me.

Phones are lifted.

They’re capturing, but they don’t understand.

Volik isn’t losing control.

He’s going after his mate.

I look at the smoldering shoes.

I think about the fire-like glow coming from his chest.

Okay, maybe he is losing control. But not for nothing.

Students get closer.

Seconds get wasted.

And I shake my head.

No.

He’s not doing this alone.

I hold up a hand, halting the approaching mob. “You are not in danger.” Someone asks a question, but I keep my hand up. “I’m sorry… I have to go.”

There’s no time for phone calls.

I take one step in the direction of the woods behind campus.

There’s no time for anything.

Except this.

I shrug off my suit jacket and drop it to the grass.

“Orion, forgive me,” I whisper.

Then I sprint.

And mid-stride, I let my wolf out.

He rips into existence.

Tearing clothes. Reforming bones.

We land in a dead run.

My paws eat up the distance to the tree line.

I don’t slow.

Not until I enter the woods.

Not until I cross into pack territory.

Then I throw my head back. And I howl.
