Chapter 124
Volik
My wall of gravito bursts, and I watch the others stand from the dining table.
Barth looks over at me with wide eyes. “It’s Dread.”
“Da.” I can feel the magic too. But when he continues to just stand there, I lift my brows. “Let the druid in, druid.”
He looks at his mate. Then at my kin.
And when no one else moves, he squares his shoulders and walks toward the door.
“Does he not like Dread?” Nix whispers.
“The opposite,” I say at normal volume. “He is a fangirl.”
Barth shoots me a look as Nix snickers.
Then he opens the door and greets the shirtless, shoeless prodigy of his kind.
As they speak quietly, Nix climbs off my lap and picks up the soft dress my aunt left for her. “I’m gonna go change out of these jeans.”
“Do you want help?” I stand to follow.
She presses a hand to my stomach. “You can help me take it off later. If you follow me now, we won’t come back down to talk to anyone.”
“That is fine. I do not care to talk.”
She pokes me. And I cannot get over how perfect she looks with those little black horns sticking up through her hair.
Nix pokes me again. “Don’t look at me like that. I don’t want your family hearing us.”
“I will make Dread portal us home.”
She grins as she shakes her head. “I’ll be right back.”
Sighing, I let her go, and I cross the room toward the druids. But before I reach them, a dark-haired man with bright green eyes steps through the open castle door.
I turn to him. “Orion.”
The Alpha dips his chin, then reaches out, and we grip forearms in greeting. “Volik, nice to see you’re still alive.”
“Same to you.” I nod. “Though I had little doubt. Your pack is impressive.”
Orion grins. “My army may be small, but they are effective.”
“Da. And I cannot tell you how grateful I am for what you have done.”
The Alpha shrugs his wide shoulders. “It was only a matter of time before our existence was made public. It’s better to control the narrative. And it’s best if that narrative says don’t fuck with us.” He smirks. “We suffered no casualties on my end.”
“And the elders?”
Orion rolls his green eyes. “The elders are never fucking happy. So who gives a shit?”
I hold back my smile. “Those vampires, when they reform, will not be pleased.”
He lifts a brow. “And if they get past you to us, we will spread their body parts around another continent.”
This time I grin. “I think I like you, Wolf.”
He grins back. “That mean you’re good with us spending the night?”
I lift a shoulder. “It is not my castle.”
“Whose castle is it?”
“Mine!” Uncle steps up beside me, holding his hand out to Orion. “Well, mine and my mate’s, but we’d be happy to have you.” They grip forearms. “It’s been a long time since I’ve hung out with wolves.”
“Let’s change that.” Orion steps back and lets out a short whistle.
And my uncle grins like a fool as shifters fill his home.
