CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX
RAZOR
Oh, good. You’re back.
Don’t start with me. Don’t slyly glance around the tent like you expected me to be stroking Bunny’s hair in bed already.
We can’t close the park. Even with Carl’s greedy ass being out of the equation, operations are too pricey and we can’t afford missing a day of pay.
Not with only having a few more weeks of Vore being open.
Which is why everyone’s working together to sort this out before some fuck peeks in.
I wasn’t expecting this. I knew she… I mean, I thought she was good. I thought… I thought she was the only one that made it out with a rinsed brain.
Is it sickening to be hiding a smile while slamming an axe down into a kneecap?
Probably. But there are far worse things happening out in the world.
The only reason why STDs float around this rock is because of what men did to animals.
What they still do to animals. So, if you wanna judge, go fuckin’, uh, find a cause to join, take that judgment to the rapists, which is probably what these assholes were.
Bun’s obviously not handling this too well. So, we’re punching ass to get this all up while Ora wipes her paralyzed face.
Picking the leg up, I toss it over to the pile Xene is throwing an arm on.
He checks out the mess on his hand, almost falling into instinct of dusting his palm on his jeans, but instead of pretending to be halfway normal for the sake of Bunny standing in the spot I found her in, he sticks a finger in his mouth.
My muscles stiffen, hoping to God he gets a quick look at my severity before going too far.
Ignoring my scowl, he moans, popping his finger from his lips and shuffling around in sticky crimson to scope out the dude with a tent stake sticking out of his chest. “He’s diabetic. It’s a little sweet.”
Clearly disturbing Bunny, she slowly, and I mean fucking slowly, moves her head on a swivel, catching him sucking on another finger.
“Xene,” I grit out, my hold on the axe tightening.
Realization stiffens his neck and he pulls his finger from his mouth, awkwardly dropping his hand back down and casting a side-eye to Bunny. “I’m just kidding.”
“Y-you just…” Sedately pointing at him, Bunny’s jaw falls.
Fuck.
“Are you that surprised?” I ask, pretending like I’m not swallowing a whole goddamn bubble of nerves. “It’s Xene.”
“It’s meee,” he skips around the body he just tasted, snapping over and ripping the stake from the guy’s chest.
Ora’s cheeks fill with a contained laugh, but I don’t find this funny, and Bunny growing gray in the face as the searing squelch flings blood between us is hollowing my organs.
Watching Bunny’s weight teeter, her lips draining to blue, I drop the axe near the guy that’s face down, rushing to her, making it just in time to catch her body going slack. “Shit,” I exhale, stabilizing her.
“Oh, fuck, Bunny! Are you okay?” Ora tries grabbing at her.
Holding Bunny to my chest, my eyes narrow at Ora. “Does she fuckin’ look okay?”
“Bite me,” she mouths aggressively.
“This is too much. I gotta get her out of here,” I tell everyone, positioning myself to get Bunny picked up in a cradle.
I hate that she’s limp. Her little body not tensing from my touch or feeding a pretty blush across her cheeks is trying to convince me that she’s dead, that I’m picking up the corpse of the girl I’ve been chasing.
“You would be the death of her.”
My head cocks each way, blinking hard. “I didn’t fucking do this.”
“Yes, you did.”
“You’re evil.”
“Everyone’s evil because of you.”
“You’re okay. Don’t listen.”
“Listen.”
“Freak!”
“Easy, man.” Cash sets a hand on my shoulder, easing himself into my bugging sight. “You’re holdin’. Bunny. Don’t start wiggin’ out… You good?”
“Yeah.” Catching a glimpse of Ora cleaning off one of Xene’s fingers, the veins in my face quake, pulsing to a hellbent rhythm.
I try to shake it off and breathe away the flicking drip in my throat, but the heavy scent coming off Bunny is numbing my brain. It’s encouraging me to slip.
“Here, maybe I-”
“Don’t touch her,” I turn her away from his outstretched hands, my eyes burning hot in my skull.
Placating with a surrender, he takes a step back, thinning his lips with a nod. “I’m just tryin’ to help, Raze. This is real fucked and we’re already playin’ with fire. We’ve been doin’ good, man. You want Bunny to do good, right?”
I nod absently, feeling myself hold her even tighter to my chest.
Flashing me a performative smile, he nods some more and starts dusting his palms together.
“Yeah, yeah. See? We’ll make sure she’s good.
But that includes you bein’ good. And you don’t seem to be doin’ too good in here.
So, we’ll get some distractions goin’, clear the coast, and you get her home before she wakes up. Cakewalk.”
Nodding in agreement, realization punches another round of anger through me and my neck stiffens.
We didn’t get the chance to check for cameras before Bunny hopped away. But it’s probably too fucking late to even worry about that. If there are cameras, they’ve already seen it all.
