Chapter 7

Francesca

Eve ended up coming down and joining us for a drink. Carlo and I shared our plans for the next day. I watched Eve's face. I wanted to see how she'd react.

But all she did was jump out of her chair and bounce up and down, cheering.

Then she pulled on Carlo's hands until he stood.

“This is the best news ever.” Eve launched herself into his arms and laughed herself silly.

“She's going to love this. So much.” Eve pushed back a bit and wrapped her hand around the back of his neck. “This is so good. So, so, so good.”

She pulled his head to hers. Their foreheads rested against each other for a long moment.

It would have been very touching. If they were together. And not cheating together.

Eve suddenly turned to me and grabbed my hand. Carlo quickly grabbed my other hand, and they pulled me into their embrace. “Thank you, Francesca.” Eve's eyes gazed at me adoringly. “Giselle is going to be thrilled.” She kissed my cheek. Then she turned to Carlo—and kissed him.

On his lips.

It wasn't just a peck. There was some definite tongue action going on there.

When they finished, Eve looked at me. She pushed her hand on the middle of my back, pressing me to Carlo.

“Have you two kissed yet?” she asked with a big smile on her face.

“I saw you kissing Nick earlier,” she whispered for absolutely no reason.

Carlo was—right here. He could hear everything she said. “I didn't want to interrupt.”

I felt my face heat. “I—” I started to say, but nothing else came out. Probably because I had nothing to say. She'd caught me kissing her husband.

Eve giggled and rubbed my back. “It's okay, Francesca. That's what we do. We kiss each other.” She looked at Carlo. “Right?”

Carlo's eyes moved to mine, and he grinned. Instead of answering Eve's question, he asked me one. “How exactly did you kiss Nick?” The way all his attention was focused on my every breath—my every move—made me feel a little lightheaded.

“It was nothing.” I shook my head and shrugged. Just a little peck.”

Eve giggled again and shook her head. “It started out like that. But then—” Her eyebrows waggled suggestively.

Why was she trying to make me kiss her affair partner?

“Stefan asked her to give Nick a real kiss.” Eve looked at Carlo and whispered, “And she did.”

Carlo looked more than a little surprised. “Is that right?” His head tilted slightly as his eyes zeroed in on my lips. And that did nothing good to my lady parts.

Well, I mean, technically, it was good. But that was also bad.

Mostly for my panties.

“Well, obviously, I need to even the score. What do you say, Francesca?”

Oh.

My.

Gosh.

The heat in his gaze nearly made me combust right on the spot.

Carlo slowly leaned forward and—

Touched his lips to mine. To say I melted into him would be an understatement.

This was not an innocent peck on the lips. Not by a long shot.

Carlo's head slanted, and he—really kissed me. His tongue dove into my mouth, searching for mine. And I gave it to him.

Before I knew it, his arms were around me—and mine slid up his chest, feeling his warm, huge, strong muscles under my palms.

Carlo groaned and pulled me closer to him.

“Fuck, you taste good,” he muttered against my lips.

I was fairly sure I whimpered as he took my mouth again—but this time in an even deeper kiss.

My toes curled as he took what he wanted from me.

And when he finally tore his lips from mine, he smiled as he panted, “That was a great fuckin' kiss.” His tone was cocky and overconfident.

“It really was,” Eve agreed with him and let out a small laugh. “All right, enough kissing for now. We need to start planning.”

And just like that—we all sat down and got to work.
