Chapter 51 #9
Her eyes shifted back towards him just as one of the kneeling men was dragged forward. It was one of the policeman, standing at the very back.
She narrowed her eyes, barely able to process what she was seeing, when Zaviyar rose from the chair and slowly walked towards him. There was something terrifyingly controlled about every step he took. He extended his hand, and one of the guards placed a glowing iron rod into it.
Zaviyar looked at the policeman with nothing but murderous contempt.
"How dare you look at my wife, you bastard."
The scream that followed made Safiya's head spin.
" I'll gouge your eyes out. ", the iron rod came down again. She couldn't look away. She couldn't breathe.
The man screamed until his voice turned hoarse, while Zaviyar continued striking him with a rage so brutal that Safiya barely recognised the man standing before her.
"Bhai... he's dead.", Kabir's voice finally broke through the chaos as he grabbed Zaviyar's arm and pulled him back.
Zaviyar's chest rose and fell heavily, his knuckles stained, his eyes still burning with fury.
"My wife got hurt," he said, his voice dangerously quiet now. "She had to witness all that because these bastards were unable to do their fucking job."
Kabir immediately stepped back. Even he was afraid of Zaviyar's anger. Zaviyar turned towards the doctor.
"You see this doctor? Make sure my wife is okay by morning. "
" will today's incident leave any trauma in her? ", the doctor nodded, " yes, sir. The sudden exposure to bloodshed might leave a trauma. But you can reverse that with extreme care ", Zaviyar nodded.
" and don't worry, sir. Jo dawa unke khaane mein di gayi hai, woh sirf unhein sulaayegi. Unki sehat ko koi nuqsaan nahi hoga. She will rather feel more energized after a good sleep. "
(The medicine given in her food will only make her sleep. It will not harm her health. She will rather feel more energized after a good sleep. )
"Good.", Zaviyar's gaze hardened.
"Because you know what will happen if anything goes wrong.", The doctor swallowed nervously.
Safiya didn't hear anything after that. Tears had already slipped silently down her cheeks.
She stared at Zaviyar through the crack in the door, her heart breaking with every second she spent looking at him.
The man she had claimed to love. The man she had trusted. The man she had allowed herself to believe could never hurt her.
He had ordered a doctor to drug her. He had lied to her.
And all this time, while she slept peacefully upstairs, he had been down here becoming a monster in her name. Her trembling fingers reached for the door.
She didn't even realise she had pushed it open until the hinges groaned.
Every head in the room turned. The guards froze. Kabir's expression changed. Waqas went completely still.
And Zaviyar-
Zaviyar's blood ran cold. His eyes locked onto hers. For one long, agonising second, neither of them moved.
The ride in his hand dropped, making a loud sound. His mouth opened and closed, as he stood unable to speak.
Safiya stood there with tears staining her cheeks, her face pale, her eyes carrying something far more painful than anger-betrayal.
"Safiya, I-", He instinctively stepped towards her, extending his hands as though he could still reach for her, still pull her into his arms and make everything right.
She walked towards him instead.
One step, then another. Her each step feeling heavier than the previous one.
Until she stood directly in front of him. Zaviyar's hands hovered near her shoulders.
"Safiya, listen to me-" Her palm struck his face. The sound of the slap echoed through the room. Everyone went silent.
Zaviyar's head turned sharply with the force of it, his jaw tightening as his cheek burned beneath her hand.
But he didn't retaliate. He didn't even move. Slowly, his eyes returned to hers.
And for the first time that night, the man who had made everyone else tremble looked utterly shaken.
Safiya's lips parted, but no words came. There were only tears. And in the silence that followed, Zaviyar finally understood.
She had seen everything. She had heard everything.
And suddenly, for the first time, the fear in the room wasn't theirs.
It was his.
Because the woman he would burn the world down to protect was standing before him, looking at him as though he were the very monster she had once feared becoming trapped with.
And Zaviyar had no idea whether there was anything left in him powerful enough to make her look at him the way she once did.
"OUT." Her voice trembled with fury. "Leave. I have something to discuss with... "
" My husband.", She said the word husband like a claim or perhaps, a warning, before she walked past him and sat on the chair previously occupied by him.
