Chapter 35

Love is Gone – Slander, Dylan Matthew (Acoustic)

Enzo

IT’S BEEN TWO WEEKS AND NO WORD. I left the hospital room to find Tony waiting for me.

My mother was nowhere in sight and neither was Elena.

I thought maybe she went back to the house but I was mistaken.

When I got home, the first thing I noticed, was her car gone.

I knew then; I’d fucked up. Walking up to the house with Angelo in my arms, fast asleep, I still believed that maybe she went out for the night, maybe she needed to clear her head. Maybe she needed space.

But then I saw it on the kitchen counter. A letter addressed to me. So formal. Mr. L. Marino. And I couldn’t fight the stab of pain that hit me in the chest. I knew before I even opened it that she was gone.

And why would she stay? I was so horrible to her. The things I said… how can I ever make up for that? Tony and I parted ways at the hospital, I came home and he went… wherever it is that Tony goes, but he knew she was leaving. I can feel it in my gut.

My feet feel like lead as I make my way up the stairs. I put Angelo down to sleep in his room, turn the monitor on and shut the door. I’m about to go back downstairs but my legs take me in another direction… towards her room.

I open the door and look around, at first glance, everything looks the same, I walk over to her bathroom…

all her stuff is gone, looking back into the room, her desk is cleared out as well.

I sigh a breath of relief when I open her closet and find her clothes still there.

Maybe she’ll come back? I exit her room and open her office…

nothing… it’s all gone. The shelves are empty, all her books gone, laptop, paper weights, the throw from the sofa… all gone.

Going back downstairs I make my way to the kitchen. I grab the letter from the counter and open it.
