Chapter 14 Plans and New Beginnings
Chapter Fourteen: Plans and New Beginnings
Camille and Mikhail settled into a quiet corner of his apartment, a table cluttered with notebooks, files, and a laptop.
The sun outside was beginning to dip, casting long shadows across the room.
For the first time in weeks, Camille felt a sense of purpose—sharp, clear, and terrifyingly exhilarating.
“We need to start with a timeline,” Mikhail said, tapping his pen against the table.
“Every interaction, every text, every meeting between Adrian and Elara. If we document it properly, we’ll have control.
”
Camille nodded, flipping through her notes.
Her fingers trembled slightly, betraying the emotional weight she had carried for so long.
“I’ve been thinking… I stopped working years ago.
Adrian wanted a stay-at-home wife, remember?
But lately… I’ve been thinking about going back.
Getting my independence back.”
Mikhail’s eyes softened as he watched her.
“That’s… it’s about time. You shouldn’t have had to put your life on hold for him.
You’re capable of so much more than that.
”
A small, genuine smile touched Camille’s lips.
“I just… I feel like I’ve lost so much of myself.
I need to reclaim it—not just for the revenge plan, but for me.
”
Mikhail leaned back in his chair, considering her for a moment.
Then, with a faint smile, he said, “You know… I might be able to help with that.”
Camille raised an eyebrow, curious.
“Oh? How?”
“I’m looking for a personal assistant,” he explained, voice calm but confident.
“Someone organized, intelligent… someone I can trust. You’d be perfect for the role.
You’d be back in a professional environment, making decisions, taking charge—and you’d have the flexibility to continue our plan.
”
Camille blinked, caught off guard. “You… you’d really offer me that?
”
“Absolutely,” Mikhail replied. “You’ve been through a lot, Camille.
But you’re strong. Smart. And this… this could be exactly what you need to take your life back while we make sure Adrian and Elara don’t get away with what they’ve done.
”
Her chest tightened—not with fear, but with something close to hope.
“I… I can’t believe you’d think of me like that.
I’ve been… broken for so long. I didn’t think I’d ever feel…
capable again.”
Mikhail reached across the table, brushing a loose strand of hair from her face.
“You’ve always been capable. You just needed the chance to see it for yourself.
Now you have it.”
Camille exhaled, a mixture of relief and determination flooding her senses.
“Then… let’s do it. We plan, we strategize, we reclaim what’s mine—and I start taking back my life.
”
Mikhail smiled, the subtle curve of his lips both reassuring and encouraging.
“Exactly. One step at a time. We start with the evidence, then lawyers, then… the rest falls into place. And now, you also take back your independence. Together.”
For the first time in months, Camille felt a spark of control, a flicker of excitement replacing the numbness and grief.
The road ahead was long, filled with challenges and careful moves, but she wasn’t afraid.
She had Mikhail by her side, a plan in motion, and a chance to rebuild herself on her own terms.
And this time, she wasn’t going to let anyone—Adrian or Elara—take that away from her.
