Wren

A COUPLE DAYS LATER

After the incident at the baby shower, Maniac has been keeping me in the house, and it’s driving me crazy.

The only time I got some air was when I went outside with the cats.

He was gon’ have to come up with something better than this to keep me safe.

I can’t just sit in the house all day long. It’s depressing.

“Y’all are tired of being here too, huh?” I asked Luna and Smoke as they laid on the floor in the corner of the room. It’s been a minute since I’ve gotten them out the house. Maybe I need to load up all my babies and make a trip to the pet store. It should be safe to go to the pet store.

Grabbing my phone, I swiped the screen and went to the call log. Pressing Maniac’s name, I tapped the phone icon and waited as it rang. “Yeah?” he answered.

“I want to go to the pet store.”

“For what?”

“I think we need to get out the house and get some fresh air.”

“Who is we?”

“Me and the cats.”

“If you don’t get the fuck off my phone. Them cats go outside enough.”

“I’m serious, bae. I’m going to the pet store whether if you like it or not.”

I scooted to the edge of the sofa to get up. Soon as I pressed my free hand against the cushion and pushed up, Maniac shoved me right back down.

“Where you come from?” I frowned up at him and ended the call. He was supposed to be gone to the distillery hours ago.

“I came to check on yo’ hard-headed ass. I just knew you weren’t gon’ listen to me.”

“I been in this house two days straight. I need to get out of here.”

He sat down on the couch alongside me and Luna strutted over to where we sat.

She jumped up on the sofa. I thought Maniac was gon’ knock her right back down like he normally does, but he even went as far as to allowing her to climb into his lap.

She sat there for a moment while I stroked her head.

Seconds later, she began screaming at the top of her lungs.

Before I knew it, I saw blood come out onto Maniac’s pants and something slipped out of her.

“Man, I just know this got damn cat ain’t just have no baby on me.

” Manaic’s eyes bucked as he pushed Luna to the floor and lifted to his feet.

The kitten almost dropped if I hadn’t reached over and caught it before it hit the floor.

“What the fuck be wrong with these got damn cats?” He brushed his hand across the blood on the crotch of his pants as if that was gon’ remove the stain.

“Take the pants off and I’ll wash them for you.”

“Wash ’em?” He frowned. “This shit going in the fucking trash.”

“I didn’t even know she was pregnant.” I stared down at the tiny lil cat in my hand. “She needs blankets and stuff. I’m sure she has another one or two inside her.”

“Who the fuck you think finna play veterinarian? Not me.”

“Bae…” I poked my lower lip out at him.

“Nah. Don’t come looking at me like that. I ain’t ’bout to deliver no damn kittens.”

“You don’t have to. Just get her comfortable so that she can have them herself.”

“I swear yo’ ass ain’t nothing but trouble,” he mumbled as he left out the room.

Not long after, he came back with some blankets and set them up in the corner of the room.

Luna went straight over to them and laid down as if she already knew what to do.

She’s never had kittens before. I hadn’t even realized she was pregnant.

I guess I was so focused on my own pregnancy to realize that something was off when it came to her.

After thirty minutes, Luna had pushed out three more kittens. They all laid in the corner on the blankets with her while she fed them milk. Maniac leaned against the door frame with Smoke, Gremlin, and Zilla all lined up in front of him.

“Now, which one of you limp dick mufuckas got lil Luna pregnant?”

It was obvious who had gotten her pregnant. Smoke. The kitten I’m holding in my hand matched him perfectly. All the cats scattered. None of them wanted to deal with his antics.

“We need to take them to the vet.”

Maniac’s head whipped in my direction. “The vet?”

“Yeah, she just had kittens. We need to take them to make sure that they’re okay.”

“You want me to get them fresh out her pussy and take them to the vet?” He folded his arms over his chest and mugged me.

“I’m calling the vet,” I told him and scrolled through my phone to find the phone number. I always took my babies to the vet the same way that I go to the doctor. It doesn’t matter that she seems perfectly fine, I still wanted her to get checked out.

Stopping on the veterinarian’s number, I pressed the phone icon and placed the phone to my ear. Maniac came over and took a seat next to me on the sofa. His eyes burned the side of my face, but I paid him no mind.

“Petcare Center,” the woman said when she answered the phone.

“Hey, I need to make an appointment. My cat just had kittens.”

“Aww, congratulations.”

“Thank you.”

“Are you a patient with us already?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“What’s the name?”

“Luna Sloane.”

“Ah, I see her. Would you like a morning or afternoon appointment?”

“Morning is fine.”

Maniac stood to his feet and removed his pants, throwing me off track. “I can get you in on Thursday morning at nine. Is that fine?”

“Uh huh. That’s good.” I licked my chapped lips.

“Okay. See you then.”

Removing the phone from my ear, I pressed the red button and tossed it to the side. “You need help getting cleaned up?” I asked him, licking my lips again.

“Bring yo’ greedy ass on,” he said and left out of the family room.
