Maniac

I sat there at the foot of the bed, staring at the text message on my phone.

Pops: When do you plan on telling her about Big John?

The shit has been fucking with my head. I know it’s a conversation that we’re going to have to have before we took shit a step further. I just don’t know if I’m ready for all that as of yet.

Glancing over my shoulder, I saw Wren sleeping peacefully in my bed with the sheets covering her naked frame from the waist down. My phone vibrated, grabbing my attention.

Luxe: Meet me at the warehouse. I think you’re going to want to see this.

Getting up, I went over and grabbed me a pair of black sweats and a pullover and then got dressed. Stopping at the bed, I pecked Wren on the temple, coaxing her to stir in her sleep and moan. She simply turned over on her side and snored a bit.

Swiping my strap from the nightstand, I exited the room and left the house.

It didn’t take me long to make it to the warehouse outside of Montgomery. When I pulled onto the dirt road and drove toward the warehouse, I saw Luxe’s car parked at the door. I pulled up next to it and parked.

Getting out, I approached the warehouse door and pressed my thumb against the keypad. Only a Saint-Mercier is able to access this warehouse. It was where we kept most of our valuable possessions.

Pulling the door open, I entered the dimly lit warehouse to find Luxe standing at the table in the middle of it with a couple of crates stacked on the floor alongside her.

“Just wait ’til you see this,” she said, not even bothering to turn around and make sure it was me.

When I approached the table, she turned with a box in her hand. Luxe popped the box open and I was speechless at the ring that stared back at me. Gripping Luxe by the head, I kissed her in the center of the forehead.

“See, this is exactly why I trusted you with this,” I told her.

“I’m sure she’ll love it. I almost wanted to keep it for myself.” She shut the box and planted it in the palm of my hand.

“I got a few runs to make before heading home. Make sure you lock up, will you?”

Luxe slid a case off the table and strutted toward the door.

I popped the ring box open again, taking another look at the ring.

A unique ring for a unique woman. The ring was vintage, princess cut with diamonds along the band.

The rock was almost the exact shade of her eyes.

Shutting the box, I strolled out of the warehouse.

I approached my car but heard footsteps coming from behind me.

Reaching for my strap, I whipped it out and turned around with it aimed. “You can have anything in this world, but I ain’t letting her marry into that family. Y’all can’t have my daughter.”

To be continued.
