Chapter 24
CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
XANDER
I’ve been sleeping much better since Ivy’s been in my bed. I still have nights that are worse than others, but for the most part, I’ve been sleeping through the night.
And Ivy pressed to my side, her head on my chest and arm wrapped around my waist, is a big reason for it. Before her, I would just get out of bed and walk around my house at night. But with her, I’d rather lie here and feel her warmth against me.
And, amazingly, that makes me tired, and I end up drifting off.
She’s good for me in every way. I’m never letting her go, not even once I return to hockey. I bet she could work for the team or, at the very least, get a job in Denver. Shit, she doesn’t have to work at all, but I know my girl, and she loves her job.
There’s no way I’d want to leave her behind in Montana. I’m never there, and I’m too fucking selfish.
I want her with me all the fucking time.
Me.
The man who didn’t believe in relationships.
And, to be honest, the thought of it still scares me.
Because in my experience, women don’t stay.
Marriage is a shit show. I’ve never had a desire to try to make anything stick with anyone.
In fact, there’s a loud voice screaming at me to break things off with her and go back to being client and therapist before she can stomp all over my heart and grind it into dust, leaving me a shell of a man.
Dramatic? Maybe. But you didn’t witness my childhood.
Despite all that, I love her more than I’m afraid of what the outcome might be. The thought of losing her at all is terrifying. Full stop. Whether I’m the one leaving to try to save my own feelings or she’s the one that ends up walking away one day. Either way, the thought is fucking crippling.
Ivy shifts next to me and whimpers a little in the back of her throat. I brush her hair off her cheek and watch in the moonlight and the glow from the city as her eyes blink open and she gazes up at me.
“What’s wrong?”
I smile and continue brushing my fingers through her hair. “Nothing at all. I’m here with you, so everything is perfect. Go back to sleep.”
“Are you having trouble sleeping?” she asks as she shifts, urging me onto my side so we’re lying facing each other, our legs tangled.
“Only a little. I’ll drift off again in a few.”
She pushes her fingers into my hair, brushing it off my forehead, and then over my scalp and down my neck.
“I’m right here,” she says softly. So fucking soothingly. “I’m not going anywhere.”
I want to make her promise. To swear that she’s mine forever and she’ll never just bug out.
“I’ve got you, sweet man. Just relax with me and sleep.”
Her fingers, her voice, her words are so fucking soothing, and my eyes feel heavy.
And I can’t fight as sleep pulls me under.
Someone is riding my cock.
“Fuck, Xander,” Ivy whispers as I open my eyes and my hands palm her ass. My girl is on top of me, riding me, squeezing around me, and I’ve found heaven. “Good, you’re awake.”
“For fuck’s sake.”
She pauses. “Bad?”
“No.” I chuckle and pull her down so I can kiss the fuck out of her. “Best ever. Jesus Christ.”
“I woke up and you were hard.” She circles her hips, and I suck in a breath. My hands glide up her sides to her tits, and my thumbs ghost over the tight peaks as she braces herself on my chest and moves up and down, squeezing the fuck out of my dick.
“We need to . . . God, just like that, baby . . . wake up like this every goddamn day.”
“Mmm.” She lets her head fall back, and her hair dusts over my thighs. Her tits jut out, her pussy clenches down, and fuck my life, I’m going to come already. “So good. So fucking good.”
“Look at me. Eyes on me, Ivy.”
She complies, her baby blues are heavy lidded, and she bites that plump lower lip.
“Fuck.” I hold her gaze as she starts to lose her rhythm because she’s going to come, so I grip her hips and keep her steady. “That’s it, love. Come all over me. Make a mess, sweetheart.”
“Holy shit,” she groans and bears down, clenching my cock like a goddamn vise, and pulls my own orgasm out of me.
“Goddamn.” I rock up, and then I yank her down into my arms so I can hold her to me as I continue to come inside her. “Jesus.”
“Good times.” She smirks and bites my pec. “Welp, that was fun. I have shit to do.”
She tries to roll off me, but I lock her down and flip her beneath me.
“I feel so used,” I grumble against her lips before nibbling on them.
“Aww. Poor baby.” She looks so fucking pleased with herself as she grips onto my ass. “Don’t worry. We’ll be back here again later. But first, I have to get ready for this big shindig tonight.”
I glance at the clock. “That’s not for about twelve hours, Red.”
“Tell that to Brit. The woman has us in appointments all day. You won’t even recognize me when they’re done with me.”
I narrow my eyes and brush my nose over hers. “I’d recognize you anywhere. Always. In this life and the next one.”
“Oh.” Her eyes soften, and she smiles softly. “Who says jocks can’t be the sweetest ever?”
“Whoever says that is an asshole. When do you have to leave?”
“In an hour. I have to shower and wash my hair, and then it has to be dry when I leave.”
“Good. I can help with that.”
She shakes her head, but she’s still smiling. “That means it’ll take longer than an hour.”
“It’s my shindig, wildcat. Who the fuck cares?”
