Epilogue

Freya POV:

The next morning, as I sat in the passenger seat of Harvey’s car on the way to work, I felt a strange sense of vertigo.

Two years ago, I had played this exact scene out in my head a thousand times.

I never imagined that when it finally happened, it would feel this incredibly quiet. This peaceful.

We pulled into the underground parking garage.

Harvey reached for my crutches, then moved with a steady, practiced strength to scoop me up, supporting my weight as he lifted me out of the car.

I leaned against his chest, a small smile tugging at my lips.

Then, a familiar voice rang out from just a few yards away.

"Morning! Wait—oh my god! You two... this is too perfect!"

I looked up.

Julie, from our department, was standing just a few steps away, staring at us with a mix of shock and pure, unadulterated envy.

The air went still for two heartbeats.

Then, she spun around abruptly.

"I didn't see anything! I'm invisible!"

She vanished into the elevator bank before we could say a word.

Harvey: "..."

Me: "..."

----

But when Harvey eventually helped me walk into the sales department, the entire floor went dead silent for a split second.

And then—

Every single face lit up with a somehow creepy, knowing grin.

It was the look of a crowd finally getting the happy ending they’d been waiting for.

Emily was the worst of them.

She practically lunged at us.

"Oh my god, I knew it! I freaking knew it!"

I let out a long sigh.

"Emily, please—"

The entire office erupted into laughter.

I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks, my ears burning.

I glanced back, and there was Harvey, standing a step away, watching me with a lopsided grin.

The morning sun caught the light in his light blue eyes, making them look as soft and clear as lake water.

In that moment, it hit me.

Maybe—just maybe—from here on out...

Things really were going to get better.
