Epilogue - One
They were back at the Wellington Arch. There was no rain. No bad guys chased them. No danger waited.
And Ryan was hoping to close the most important case of his life.
He dropped to one knee.
“Uh, Ryan, what are you doing?” Simone asked him.
He pulled a small, blue box from his pocket.
“If you don’t like it, we can get something different.
” He’d gone to the jewelry shop on Old Bond Street, desperate to find the right ring for her.
He hoped that she loved the sapphire and diamond engagement ring that he’d picked out.
The square-cut sapphire was pretty damn close to the color of her eyes.
Swallowing, he opened the box. “I love you.”
“Ryan.” She seemed to have frozen.
“And I would like nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with you.” Every day with her would be an adventure, and he could not wait. “Simone Sailor, will you please marry me?”
“Ryan! Yes!” She snatched the ring from him. Put it on her finger and held it up to the sky. “Better than any star. OhmyGod, I love it! I love you!” She hauled him to his feet and dragged him in for a kiss. “I love you, I love you, I love you.”
Relief had him feeling nearly lightheaded. His arms closed around her. He would never, ever forget the stark terror he’d felt after hearing her scream on that horrible phone call. He’d been terrified every second until he saw her again.
His Simone.
But the fear was gone now. He was the happiest that he could ever remember feeling and it was because…She loves me.
And she was going to marry him.
Hell, yes.
He couldn’t wait for her to meet his family. Ryan knew they’d love her as much as he did.
