Extract From Notebook 4
You sensed me yesterday, didn’t you, Nell? You knew I was there, among you. It’s why you said that today, you’d be going back to your house. It was an invitation, an invitation to me to come and kill you.
I know what you’re doing, Nell. You think you’re controlling the situation, you think you’ll be prepared. But nothing can prepare you for what is going to happen. I’m tired of our game, I need it to be over.
I’ll be leaving soon, Nell. You won’t be on your guard yet, it’s far too early in the evening.
I’ve had to change other aspects of my game plan too.
I won’t be coming in through the front door but via your bathroom window.
I can access it from the roof, where I need to be to make the last of my preparations.
Perhaps I’ll get a glimpse of you in the kitchen, making yourself a soothing cup of tea, before I come to kill you.
