Chapter 2 #2

I gave a head nod instead of speaking because if I was trying my best to keep my anger at bay.

This was the man that altered the life that I was meant to live.

As I followed behind him, I couldn’t help but picture me putting a bullet in his head.

Although I never got the opportunity to get to know my parents, that still didn’t change the fact that if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be here.

Once this shit was over, I’d be able to get to know Nina, but I’d only hear of the man my dad was.

When we made it towards the horse's stable, we continued inside until we entered a stall. There was a man tied to a chair inside instead of a horse. There was blood dripping from his mouth and one of his eyes was damn near closed shut. I noticed the tarp underneath his chair, and I already knew what was to come. Looking over at Juan he wasn’t looking at the man but instead at me.

This wasn’t my first rode with a nigga about to lose his life, so this shit didn’t faze me one bit.

To show I wasn’t fazed, I moved closer towards the wall of the stall to lean on it for comfort.

“Some people think they can get over on the Santiago Cartel,” he expressed as he rolled up his sleeves. “And that lands them in a predicament like this.”

“You gonna kill the nigga already or keep toyin’ with ‘em?” I questioned ignoring his subtle threat.

“Hmmm, just know if you think you’re askin’ me for work then you’re gonna be a man of honor. Is that understood?”

“Remember you came for me not the other way around. But I hear ya.”

“Tuh, ok.”

He swiftly pulled a gun from his back pocket and sent three bullets to the man’s chest. I continued to stand there with a straight face because like I’d stated these niggas came to me not the other way around.

He knew what I brought to the table now I needed to know what kind of business they ran.

The fresh smell of gun powder and burning flesh filled my nose before I followed Juan out of the horses stable.

I hoped that the next part of the presentation was better than this little scare tactic.

“I need you to come up with a way to get my drugs into the streets of Miami,” he instructed as we stood in front of the Escalade I'd arrived in. “You’ll have a month to get your plan into action because I’ll be to the states with your shipment and to see how you plan to do that.

The rest of the money you made while in prison hav been placed in the trunk.

Fernando here is on loan to you while you work for us.

He’ll protect you and my investment at all cost, understand? ”

“I gotcha.”

“See you in a month.”

On the way back to the hangar, I pulled one of the four duffle bags from the trunk.

When I unzipped the bag, my eyes lit up like the night sky on the Fourth of July.

Inside the bag rows of hundred-dollar bills were banded in ten thousand bundles.

This was the most money I’d ever seen in my entire twenty-six years of life.

The fact that money was the last thing I had to worry about anymore made my birthday even greater.

Here I was sending my cousin, Chance, the five hundred I’d get paid inside to give to my grandma and Nessa.

The air felt like it was sucked out of the truck as it became hard for me to breathe with the thought of her.

I could never get the painful look that covered her face when I ended things out of my head.

It killed me to do that, but I couldn’t force her to do this time with me.

She didn’t do anything to go through this, so I felt I was doing the best thing to free her.

I didn’t know if I could face her, but this money would help cushion the anger.

“What damn woman did you piss off?” Nina asked as she opened my door.

“A good one,” I answered with the shake of my head as I got out of the vehicle with my duffle bag. “Why you ain’t tell me I made this much money while in jail?”

“I wanted you to see what your five years of hard work earned you. Now you go back home, I’ll come visit when I can, but I’ll send info by Fernando.

Set up your life then get to plannin’ how you’ll continue to make that money.

I never got to say this to you, but I love you Nasir and be safe.

And do whatever you need to do to get that woman of yours back. ”

“I love you too, Nina. Be safe with that peon ass nigga.”

A tear slid down her cheek before I pulled her in for a hug.

This shit healed the little boy inside of me to know that she not only wanted me but loved me too.

I wasn’t the type to say the shit often, but I showed my love with my loyalty.

Rather she knew that or not she had me in her corner now and until forever.

“I don’t do this mushy shit, and if you anything like yo’ parents I know you don’t either,” she pushed me off her playfully. “Movin’ forward we both know what’s understood don’t gotta be explained.”

“Type shit. I need you to check in by way of Fernando everyday doee, Nina. I ain’t tryin’ to be worried about yo’ safety with all this shit you got planned.”

“I think I’m the parent not you, but I will.”

The sounds of kids playing by my room window filled my ears causing my eyes to pop open.

I’d been ducked off at Mama Eva house for the past two days.

When we touched back down in Miami, I had Fernando cop a hotel room while I slept the last two days away here.

With everything going on I just needed a quick second to regain my footing in the outside world.

Today was going to be the first day, I’d reveal to anyone that I was out.

My first step was to pop up on Chance and see if he was trying to make some money with me.

If I was going to put some shit into play in Miami, I needed somebody who I trusted and had an ear to the streets.

Getting up, I looked at the changes down to my room and wondered what made Mama Eva do that.

My eyes landed on a picture of me and Nessa on my mirror.

The words of Nina played over in my head.

I wanted to get my shit together before I stepped to Nessa.

That way when I did step, I was doing it correct.

Once I got myself together and something on my stomach, I called Fernando to come scoop me up.

A little over twenty minutes later we were pulling up to my cousin’s apartment.

After I checked my surroundings before getting out, I made my way towards his door.

With him not knowing I was home, I decided to bang on his door like the police.

“A nigga must gotta death wish bangin’ on my shit like that,” he fumed before snatching the door opened with a gun pointed at me. “Yo’ what the fuck?!”

“Nigga lower the fuckin’ gun now that you see it’s me,” I moved out of the way of the barrel.

“Shit, my bad. It’s good to see you, my boy!”

“Hell yeah. It’s good to see you too. I just hope this the last time I have a gun pointed at me because I’ll have my own gun next time.”

“Oh, shit! Who else pulled a gun on you? We can go handle that shit right now!”

“Calm down. It’s nothin’ for us to handle because Nina did my ass the same way you just did me.”

“Wait when the fuck did you and Nina start talkin’?”

“Hell, when I got out. It’s been so much info I’ve been hit with these last two days.”

“I’m sure it’s a lot. To get out and meet yo’ mama and yo’ daughter ca…”

“Who got a fuckin’ daughter?!”

“You, nigga. I know Nessa told you ‘bout the baby finally.”

“Nawl, Nessa ain’t told me shit because I ain’t seen her. How ‘bout you fill me the fuck in.”
