Chapter Eight Whip #2
I can fight, but my ass isn’t going to be fighting a bunch of men who would end up probably trying to kill me.
Or if what Evan is saying is true, trying to use me to get information on my club and brothers.
I would never do that, but I’m sure they would attempt and I don’t feel like getting myself killed when I still have so much more to look forward to.
When I get to my apartment, I head upstairs to shower and change my clothes, but before that I need to get in touch with a few people.
“Hey brother, what’s up?”
“Can you look into some shit for me Wiz? I may have stepped in it today.”
“Did you head over to your family’s trailer today?”
How am I surprised he knows that I do that.
“I’m not even going to ask you how you know that I do that, but yeah I did. My brother is out of prison. Evan messaged me before I headed up to the door letting me know that he’s been asking around about the club and me. I want to know what the fuck he is into and who the fuck he is hanging around.
I don’t want to start more shit up for the club, so I want to know what the hell is going on over there.”
I hear Wiz sigh, “Coop, you really need to stop going over there. Nothing good comes from any of this. You know it, I know it. I might not have all the details of your childhood like Tanner or any of the other Jacobsons, but I know enough. I don’t know why you continue to torture yourself.
You don’t owe them anything.”
“Listen, I don’t really want to talk about it. It’s too hard to explain and especially when you come from a family that isn’t fucked up. You’ve had a happy home, your pops is a club member, so you can’t understand.”
“I didn’t always have a happy home and you know that. Before pops met Sloane, my life wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Fuck, Rick’s mom was a piece of work and she abused me. She left right after she had Rick too. We all have our shit,
but you just keep dragging yourself back into that mess for some reason.”
“Can you just find out what’s going on for me?”
“Yeah, sure I’ll add it to my list of shit I’ve got to do.”
“Thanks.”
With that I hang up the phone and dial Evan. It only takes one ring before he answers.
“Hey, you didn’t head in there did you?”
“No, did have a run in with our big brother though. How did you know all this shit anyway? Have they been reaching out to you?”
“No, I changed my number and everything, remember? I haven’t heard from them in years at this point. I know that you had some issues when you took me away from them at that point, but they never fought very hard or the club stepped in. They never really tried to get in touch with me then,
so I don’t think they will now. I just heard from some of your brothers up here that word was going around Travis got out and that he has some friends that are real interested in your club.”
“So how come nobody up there reached out to me if they heard anything about Travis?”
“I don’t know Coop, I’m not a brother remember? I mean I’ve thought about patching in when I’m done with medical school, I’ve got so much shit going on right now.”
“Okay, well I’m going to get into that with them later about what they know and I mean I think you patching would be fucking awesome Evan. So when am I going to be meeting this girl that you are with, since you are meeting her family?”
“Well, I’m not sure, you’d have to come up here. I don’t want to head back down there. I mean we can video chat or whatever and you can meet her that way first.”
“Well look, sometimes we do runs up there and maybe I can get on the next one to meet her. I”ve got a lot of shit I am handling down here. Peyton’s pregnant and I don’t plan to leave until after she has the babies and we work our shit out.”
“Woah! Hold up, way to bury the lead big brother. Peyton’s pregnant? Is it your baby?”
“Okay, no. Not my baby. Well not biologically. I want to be one of the dads and it’s babies. She’s having triplets. The situation requires a long explanation which we can talk about another time. I know you’ve got a lot of shit going on right now. So I’m going to let you go.
I just wanted you to know that I was all good. That I appreciate you reaching out. Travis had some other guys there and I don’t know what would’ve happened if I went into that trailer. So thank you.”
“Cooper, you’ve got to stop going over there and giving them anything. I know you want to take care of everyone and you feel like you owe them because they are our family. But you don’t. They were horrible, especially to you. You need to just let it go. Put all that shit behind you and move on.
I don’t know what’s going on with Peyton, but we’ve talked in the past and I know you don’t think that you deserve to be happy and that’s not true. You need to stop putting yourself in these situations where they continue to get in your head and fuck with you.”
I sigh, hating that my little brother is giving me advice about letting go of past hurts. “I hear you, Ev, I do. All of that is easier said than done. But you have a Merry Christmas. I love you and I will get in touch with you after the holidays.”
“I love you too, Cooper.”
With that we hang up the phone and I head to the bathroom to shower after shooting off a text to Knox telling him that I am free.
I want to see my woman and I want to convince her to give this relationship a try despite all the fucked up shit in my head and all the fucked up shit I have done to her.
I know I still have a ways to go. I know this holiday season is going to be everything I need it to be.
