Chapter Twenty-Five Peyton

So the months following Sophie’s abduction and coma have been a lot.

So much has happened and most of it has been good.

I got everyone moved into a private VIP suite in the hospital where Toby stayed with all the kids after he got them all moved there.

For a while he was taking turns between the hospital Sophie was at and the hospital where the boys were.

Until Sophie was safe to transport to the Briarfield hospital.

She finally woke up in September which was a relief to everyone.

The boys at that point were two months old and had been cleared as healthy little boys needing no extra help.

However, once she woke up she basically ripped into our dad and he left.

I haven’t been very clued into what he is doing or where he is going, just that he is on a road trip to try and mourn my mother the way that he wants to.

Tillie and Davis have moved from staying at the in-law suite at Toby and Sophie’s to staying with Tanner since he has the room and no one else is staying with him.

From what I hear they talk to dad every night and he continues to make sure that they are okay with him being on the road.

He has told them he is getting answers, answers to what I am not sure.

The fact that they have so many older siblings has probably helped them be okay with dad being out on the road.

They are used to him going out on trips for the club being that he used to be the national chapter president.

It just sucks and has been really rough dealing with all that.

I am actually pretty mad and frustrated with Sophie for everything she said and did to dad, everyone is trying to tell me I should take it easy on her.

That she is dealing with her grief and her trauma the way she needs to so that maybe some day she will figure shit out with dad.

I don’t know, she is more stubborn than she is and doesn't think that she’s in the wrong.

I also know from my brothers that she has been really secretive and has been up to something.

I don’t know what and haven’t really been clued into anything.

I don’t know if I want to know what she is doing or not.

I did find out that my friend Liza has been hiding a big secret of her own and that explains why she stopped coming over here a few months back.

She is pregnant and she is pregnant with Cane’s baby.

She didn’t want to tell him yet, but when you run into him around town and he sees your giant ass belly he’s going to know.

She didn’t want me to have to lie and hide anything so she was avoiding me.

She told me that she had planned on telling Cane, but she wasn’t ready after everything that happened.

It brought up a lot of memories for her and not good memories either.

A lot of Liza’s past she keeps to herself, so I really don’t know everything that has happened to her or why she moved here.

She doesn’t ever see her family from the sounds of it and when you talk to her boys you know that they have never really physically met that side of their family.

Cooper has still been on my shit list, yes he is at our home most nights and I know maybe it isn’t fair of me to blame him for what that bitch said.

He has told me time and time again that he has not been with her since October of last year and really it was only a blowjob.

One he claims wasn’t even that great and pictured me while it happened.

It’s just so hard to believe anything that comes out of his mouth when he lied to me for years before our shitty spring break experience.

He has been trying to prove to me that he can be trusted and that he is serious about having a life together with Knox and myself, but he still has yet to open up to me about everything and why he acted the way he did.

I’ve been trying to focus on med school now that it has started and not worrying about anything else.

I know that I’m going to have to focus on other things here soon because Thanksgiving is coming up and it is going to be weird this year since dad and mom are both gone.

It is our first Thanksgiving since mama passed away and I am nervous about everything with dad since he is out on the road.

I got home from my shift at the hospital and am carrying my books inside when my phone begins to ring. I hurry to unlock the door and put my stuff down. Pulling my phone out of my pocket I see it is my dad, speak of the devil.

“Hey daddy.”

“Hey baby girl. How are you doing?”

“I’m doing alright, just got home from the hospital. Got a shit load of stuff to do for school. What are you doing?”

“I just stopped at a rest area and thought I would give you a call to check in and see how you are doing. How are the kids?”

“Getting big, did you get the last bunch of pictures I sent you?”

“Yeah, I did. I miss them like crazy, they are getting huge. You’d never believe they were not even 5 pounds when they were born. That they are going to be one in a few months.”

“Yeah, are you going to be able to be home for their birthday? We’d love to see you since you won’t be home for the holidays.”

I hear him sigh into the phone as I walk into the kitchen of our home and look through everything to see what I want to make for dinner. Knox is bringing the triplets home for the club daycare when he is done with church.

“You know I want to baby girl, but I don’t think I will be able to. I’ve got a lot of places to go and a lot of stops to make.”

“Well where are you even heading? From the sounds of it you haven’t been to one of your chapters yet.”

“No, I wanted to head straight to California. I’ve been stopping along the way to see other clubs. Friends that I haven’t seen in awhile.”

“Well why couldn’t you have stopped at other Chaos chapters on the way to California. I mean it doesn’t seem right for you not to stop at the other places if you are stopping and staying at other clubs anyway.”

“It’s a surprise visit for Rooster, I don’t want word to get around that I am headed that way. But don’t worry, I’m being safe. You’ll send me lots of pictures of Thanksgiving and Christmas? I know I won’t be there, but I want to feel like I am.”

“Daddy, why can’t you just fly in for the holidays? It’s the first holiday without mama, we should all be together.”

“Baby girl, I know. But I can’t okay. I need to be away so I can focus on something other than the fact it is Thanksgiving or Christmas or even anyone’s birthday. It’s too much right now. She should be here for all this and it is not fair that she isn’t.

I’m working through shit on the road baby girl and I need you to be okay with letting me do that.”

I sigh and look at the counter.

“I guess, but we will miss you. I mean we already miss you. It's been two months since you left. I hope that you didn’t leave because Sophie was being a bitch.”

“I didn’t and don’t fucking ever think that. I needed to leave. I have shit I have to work out for myself. I had always planned on leaving after Sophie had the babies. So don’t blame your sister. I can handle whatever she is going to throw my way.

Have you guys decided where you’re doing Thanksgiving this year?”

“Well, the Untamed guys are doing it here. They understand that Knox has family in another club and that their president won’t be here. So their VP is going to make sure they stay in line. We are going to all go to Luca’s for Thanksgiving.

The Chaos brothers are just doing their own things this year. They haven’t even really been able to bring themselves to do Friday dinners.”

“Well, I hope one day we can all do family dinners and group holidays again. It just won’t look the same since your mama used to take charge of all those things. Luca needs to get himself an ol’ lady.”

I chuckle, “You didn’t know Luca has been kind of sort of seeing Ruby from Daisy’s Ink?”

He laughs, “No he failed to mention that. I hope he’s not messing with one of your sister’s employees if it’s not serious.”

“From what I heard he hasn’t even slept with her yet and they have been getting to know each other since he ran into her when she started there. He also hasn’t been with anyone else since he met her. So I guess I would say that’s serious. He wants to wait until he gets his divorce from Tasha,

now that he knows where she is. He had papers sent to her, so now he is just waiting on her to sign them.”

All of the sudden there is a knock at the door, which is weird because no one really comes here if Knox isn’t home and Knox has a key.

“Hey dad, I’ve got to go, someone is at the door.”

“Peyton, check the security feed before you answer that door and you keep me on speaker phone. I’m not getting off this phone until you know no one is a threat to you.”

I pull up the security feed at the front door and standing there is someone I do not know.

“It’s an older woman, maybe about your age or older I don’t know. She almost looks like she’s strung out or something. I don’t know how she got on the property. I’ll have to shoot a message to Knox.”

“Okay, well I’m staying on the phone.”

I roll my eyes and I know that there is no arguing and head to the front door. When I pull the door open I am greeted by a woman I have really never seen before.

“Hi, um can I help you?”

She smiles at me and I notice the woman would be pretty if it weren’t for what I am assuming is drug use. She looks rough and I am so confused as to how she ended up at my door.

“Well, sure sweetheart. Can you tell me where I can find Cooper Stone?”

The phone is still up to my ear, my dad starts to talk, “Do not tell her where Cooper is and act like you don’t know what she is talking about.” He sounds panicked and I do not know or understand why.

“I’m sorry, but I don’t know who you are talking about. This house belongs to Knox Miller.”

“Oh I’m sure it does, Peyton, but you see I know that Cooper also lives here. I know that he has been seeing you for a long time. I want him to get in touch with me and if he doesn’t I want him to know that I know just where he and his little family live. And if I know where he lives,

so does Travis and all Travis’s friends. Do you understand me?”
