Chapter 5
The morning sun was hitting the wrought-iron gates of the Marchetti compound when Bea’s car pulled up. She stepped out, smoothing her hair and adjusting the strap of a bag that definitely didn’t contain just clothes.
The two guards at the gate, massive men in black tactical gear, stepped forward to check her ID. Bea didn’t just show it; she leaned in, her hazel eyes dancing. “Morning, fellas. You always look this serious, or do I need to do something drastic to get a smile out of you?”
One of the guards cleared his throat, his neck turning a patchy red. “Just doing our job, Ms. Rossi.”
“Well, you’re doing it very… thoroughly,” she purred, tapping the silver badge on his chest.
“Enough!”
The front doors of the mansion swung open. Dimitri stood there, looking like he hadn’t slept a wink, his silver-edged hair perfectly ruffled but his expression thunderous. Killian and Nico were flanking him like twin shadows of agitation.
Bea looked at the three men then back at the guard with an over exaggerated pout, “Damn, Dad’s home.” Causing the guard to slip up and smile before schooling his face.
Dimitri stepped onto the portico and raised his voice, a sharp, cold command that echoed across the lawn.
“Listen close, because I will only say this once! Beatrice Rossi is strictly off limits. No one speaks to her, no one looks at her, and no one breathes in her direction without my express permission. Am I clear?”
A chorus of “Yes, Don Marchetti” rang out from the security detail.
Bea rolled her eyes so hard it practically hurt. She sauntered up the steps, stopping inches from Dimitri’s chest. “Honestly, Dimitri. Your little dick energy is showing. It’s embarrassing for everyone involved.”
Dimitri froze. His mouth opened, then snapped shut as a dark flush crept up his neck. He looked like he wanted to argue, but the sheer audacity of her comment had knocked the wind out of him. He turned on his heel, gesturing wildly at Nico.
“Show her around,” Dimitri snapped over his shoulder. “And for the love of God, Nico, do not leave Killian alone with her. I’m going to go drink until I forget this is really fucking happening.”
He stormed off, the heavy thud of his boots fading into the house.
Nico sighed, adjusting his glasses. “Welcome to the madhouse, Beatrice.”
“Lead the way.” she chirped.
The tour was a blur of high-end lethality. They showed her the industrial-sized kitchen, the high tech surveillance room Nico used for tracking digital ghosts, and the soundproof basement where “you could do anything you wanted and not a soul would hear you.”
“Cozy,” Bea remarked, eyeing a set of heavy-duty restraints. “Reminds me of a horror movie, only with better lighting.”
Killian’s jaw tightened at the mention of her past, his eyes never leaving the sway of her hips as they headed upstairs. Finally, they reached the third floor. They passed three massive doors, Dimitri’s, Killian’s, and Nico’s, before stopping at a fourth.
“This is your suite,” Nico said, opening the door to a room that was larger than her entire penthouse. “It’s… close. For security purposes.”
“Right. Security,” Bea mocked. She walked in, dropping her bag on the silk duvet. “What time is supper? I need to test out that bathtub, it looks big enough to drown a man in, and then I’m taking a much-needed nap. I need to catch up with my boyfriends before I start work.”
Nico’s hand stayed on the doorknob, his pretty face hardening. “Boyfriends? Plural?”
Killian stepped into the room, his shadow swallowing the light. “What boyfriends?”
“Oh, you know,” Bea said, walking toward the bathroom and starting the water. “The Winchester brothers, and their angel. They’re very demanding, especially Dean. If I don’t check in, he gets all broody and tragic.”
She didn’t tell them that Sam, Dean, and Cas lived exclusively on her television screen. She just watched the vein in Killian’s temple throb.
Nico looked like he wanted to run a background check on every man named Winchester in the tri-state area. He hated that he found her so captivating when she was clearly trying to provoke them.
“Anyway,” Bea called out over the sound of the running water. “I need to call them so we can have some very loud, very descriptive phone sex. I’m sure you understand. Personal needs and all.”
She walked back to the door, gave them a wink that felt like a slap, and shut it firmly in their faces.
Outside in the hallway, the silence was deafening.
“I’m going to find them,” Killian growled, his voice a low, murderous rumble. “I’m going to find these Winchesters and I’m going to kill all three of them.”
Nico didn’t even argue. He was already tapping into his phone, his eyes dark with a toxic mix of jealousy and desire. “I’ll help you. Only because they could be a threat to us, what if they are Valenti’s men?”
On the other side of the door, Bea collapsed onto the bed, muffled her face in a pillow, and shrieked with laughter. Once she caught her breath, she grabbed her phone and dialed.
“Barb?” Bea wheezed when the line picked up. “Oh my god, Barb. You were right. They’re already losing their minds. I told them I was having phone sex with the Supernatural cast and Killian is currently in the hallway planning a triple homicide.”
