Chapter 23

Vi was supposed to be taking a shower in Blake’s bathroom on the main floor. Instead, she stood in the hallway and thought about what she’d decided about her and Blake, what she wanted more than anything. She was ready to have sex. All she needed now was to go upstairs, take off her clothes, and join him in the shower. The idea turned her on but also scared her. Better not. She took off her shoes. Suddenly her phone rang. Linda. Her secretary knew she was taking the afternoon off. Ignoring it, Vi toed out of her sneakers. The darn thing rang again. “Shoot,” she muttered and answered. “Yes, Linda?”

“Sorry to bother you, but I have a question only you can answer.”

By the time the conversation ended, the shower upstairs had gone quiet. Too late to surprise Blake. Best to talk to him about it first? Vi wasn’t sure, and anyway the opportunity to surprise him had passed. She shut the door to the bathroom and stepped alone into the shower.

It wasn’t until she was out again, drying herself off that she realized the gym bag with her work clothes was where she’d dropped it in the living room. Wrapping the towel around herself, she exited the bathroom to get it. Blake happened to be coming down the stairs, dressed and barefoot, his hair wet and combed back.

“What do we have here?” His avid gaze flickered over her, and she wanted him even more.

Yet she wasn’t quite ready to divulge the plan that hadn’t happened. “I left my gym bag in the living room and was about to get it.”

“I’ll do that.”

In the seconds he was gone, she realized she hadn’t missed the opportunity she wanted after all. It’d simply changed from the shower to some other place. Hmm…

He returned, bag in hand. “Here you go.”

“I don’t need my clothes just yet.” She let the towel slip down a little.

His eyes were dark pools of lust. “What’re you doing, Vi?”

“Exactly what it looks like. Seducing you.”

He let his gaze comb over her. Hair loose and sexy, towel hovering mere inches below her crotch, the legs he so liked slightly apart, tops of her breasts peeking from the upper edge of the towel… No man in his right mind could resist that. He swallowed and hardly aware of his actions, started toward her. She was trembling. Primed and ready as he was to love her, he stopped short of her and scrubbed his hand over his face.

Her expression changed from sexy and aroused to mortified. “I thought… if you don’t want me…”

“Oh, I want you.” He glanced down at the bulge in his jeans. “I think about making love to you day and night, but this is so sudden. Last time we talked, you said kisses only. Yeah, we went a little farther on the deck. Now, you say you’re ready for the full deal. Sure about that?”

“Are you trying to talk me out of having sex with you? I’ve been thinking about it since we left the Mercedes dealership. I want this, Blake.”

“But you’re shaking.”

“Because I need you. And yes, I’m just out of the shower and cold. Warm me up?”

“Not until we talk.” He stepped into the bathroom, took a clean towel from one of the drawers, and draped it over her shoulders. “I don’t have condoms on me, but there are some upstairs.”

“That’s okay. I’m on the pill. And I’m clean.”

“Me, too. Yes, we’re seeing each other, but I don’t want you getting the wrong idea. What I mean is, I don’t want to hurt you.”

She scoffed. “If you think I’m falling in love with you, think again. I’m glad we’re together for now, but I understand there are no promises of anything serious. I haven’t had sex in almost a year and I happen to want it with you.” Her chin jutted up, all proud and beautiful. She took his breath away. “Does that meet with your approval?”

He answered with a sizzling kiss.

Blake’s kissblazed through every inch of Vi’s body. She let the towels fall away. He stared at her, trailed his hands down her breasts to her nipples. “You’re beautiful.”

With his expression almost reverent, she half believed him. But that was the passion talking. “I don’t want to be the only naked person here,” she said and lifted the hem of his shirt. He stopped her and shed it himself. She’d seen him bare-chested the night of the ferocious rain storm. “You’re the beautiful one here, at least the part I can see.”

“Easy fix for that.” He unzipped his fly and stepped out of his jeans and boxers. He was gloriously aroused.

“Oh, my,” she said.

He started to kiss her again. “Wait,” she said. “Are we going to have sex here in the hallway?”

He let out a low laugh and grabbed her hand. “My bedroom. Now.”

On the way upstairs, they stopped frequently to kiss. By the time he tugged her into his room, she was more than ready. Dusk had fallen, and she noted the bed was made. He let go of her to jerk the comforter back before they tumbled onto the sheets. “Right where I want you at last,” he said.

He kissed her mouth, then worked his way to her throat, her upper chest and finally her breasts. “I have to taste those perfect breasts now.”

He took a nipple into his mouth. Pleasure swept her away, and all that mattered was him. He slowly explored his way down her body. Restless, she urged him lower. At last, he focused on the part of her that ached for release. His lips, tongue and fingers drove her wild, and she arched up. “I’m about to climax.”

“Go for it,” he said, and did something with his mouth and fingers that pushed her over the brink.

She called out and lost herself in powerful sensations she hadn’t known were possible. When it was over, she lay spent.

“I think you liked that,” he said, smiling and smoothing her hair back.

“Understatement of the world. I loved it.” She let her hand drift over his broad chest and flat belly, then down further. He sucked in a breath and went still. “I think you like this, too,” she said, stroking him. Wanting to give him the same enjoyable release she’d had, she put her head down close.

In a flash, she was on her back. “No fair,” she said. “This is supposed to be your turn.”

“Save it for later. Right now, I need to be inside you.”

She wanted that, too. “Then don’t keep me waiting.”

Within moments a second orgasm hit. This one even better because they climaxed together.

After, they lay entwined the way lovers did in the movies. “We’re a good match,” Blake said.

“Really good. You totally took my mind off work.”

“I’d hope so.” He planted a tender kiss on her mouth. “I’ll be right back.” Dusk had become night and the room was dark. The hallway light was on, though, and she watched him pad out of the room toward the bathroom without a hint of modesty. A glorious male, sure of himself.

She liked him a lot. Or so she told herself, but a feeling dangerously close to love flooded her heart. Close? She was already there. Something she’d never admit to him, couldn’t. He didn’t feel the same way, and saying it out loud was too risky. Not about to lie in his bed waiting for him to come back like the lovesick fool she was, she sat up.

He was a stupendous lover, and for now that was enough. His interest in her wouldn’t last forever. When it ended, her heart would surely break. Regardless, she intended to enjoy being with him for as long as it lasted.
