Honestly #4
He folded his arms across his chest. He’d been entertaining the officers because it was all he could do until they put him in a cell.
At the mention of Tina, he was done with the games.
He’d take a plea for the sake of his freedom, but telling on family was a no go.
If they wanted her, they were going to have to do their jobs and catch her.
“You know it’s one thing to do your aunt’s dirty deeds as a teenager. I mean, once your mom passed, she was the head of the family.” The statement caught Hussein’s attention, but he didn’t say a word. “Senior was too fucked up to take the lead.”
Sam was beginning to get under Hussein’s skin.
He was talking as if he was part of the Turner family.
Everything he was saying was the truth. Senior said he was out of the game.
He stayed in the house for four hundred and eighty-five days.
The only reason he came outside was because the smoke detector needed a new battery.
He complained that it was the loudest thing in Tina’s house.
“You and Boom had to fall in line. I get that. You’re grown men now.
Well, you. Boom already fell victim to Tina.
Whether or not you choose to believe it, you’re next.
Your aunt is selfish. She doesn’t care about anyone but herself.
She loves you until loving you interferes with her plans.
We’re offering you immunity if you give us Tina.
This is the only opportunity that you will get.
You want to take the deal. Otherwise, shit is about to get real, real.
You’ve got to know you’re going down first.”
“Lawyer,” Hussein repeated, before laying his head on the table for a nap.
ONISHA’S APARTMENT | 2:18 P.M.
Prissy was leading the conversation. She felt like she had the power. In actuality, Nisha was just grateful she finally had someone she could tell the truth to.
“Did Boom know you were twelve?”
“Well, I never told him, if that’s what you mean.
I can’t say that someone else didn’t tell him.
When they grabbed him at the dog fight, maybe they revealed my identity.
” She shrugged, fingertips tapping at the top of the empty water bottle.
“I only say that because it doesn’t make sense that he didn’t even call me when he got out.
I’ve been wondering if he was mad at me.
Tried to reach out to my old partner but he’s still not talking to me. ”
“Damn, he blocked you?” Prissy asked.
“Nope, I wish he would. Instead, he just leaves me on read.” Nisha sighed. “Boom left me a stack of money on the table the night he died. He wasn’t coming back.” She stared off into the distance.
“He didn’t know you were a detective then.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Because if Boom knew you were the law and on top of that manipulating him just like Keyona, just like Tina and his mother?” Prissy paused. “He wouldn’t have left you a dime. I know that much.”
“I guess that’s a relief.”
An awkward silence filled the room. It was safe to assume that Nisha wasn’t going to have Prissy arrested. For Prissy, it was still unclear what she wanted. She hadn’t said a word about what was going to happen once she left that apartment. Up until this point she had only heard about the past.
“Why didn’t you turn me in?” Prissy asked.
Nisha wasn’t sure what she was going to do with Prissy when she sent her to hide in her bedroom. She only knew that she was of no use to her behind bars. In all the time they sat there, not only had she come up with a use for Prissy, she planned it all out.
“Because you’re going to help me catch the biggest fish.” She paused. “Tina Turner.”
“Bitch, you’re bugging.” Prissy stood. “Do you know what happens to people that cross her? I don’t, because they never live to tell the story. You can just take me to jail.” Prissy held her wrists out to Onisha.
“If that’s what you want.” Nisha shrugged. “I can call my chief back and he’ll take you in.”
“Works for me,” Prissy resolved.
“I wonder.” Nisha paused. “I don’t really know Tina, but you know her well. Do you think she could get to you inside of the prison? If so, you might as well help me take her ass in. For your safety. For Hussein’s freedom. For Boom.” Nisha got teary eyed.
“Bitch, please stop acting like Boom was sent from Heaven,” Prissy snapped.
“I don’t care who he was to you. He was my man. I was riding with him. Ain’t shit changed except now I have to go harder. I only need you to do one thing. Anything else and you’d be in my fucking way.”
“A motherfucker asking for a favor is usually more polite.” Prissy raised her eyebrows.
“I’m not asking.” Nisha returned the gesture. “Catching Tina Turner is the only thing that will save my career. With Darnell filing for divorce, and Boom gone, I’m a single mother. I need this case.”
“One thing?” Prissy confirmed.
“One thing.” Nisha nodded.
“I’m not wearing no wire or no shit like that,” Prissy warned.
“Tina would see that coming from a mile away. All I need you to do is introduce me to her. Boom’s secret baby mother. I’ll do the rest.”
And so, it begins…
