"And that's where the flood waters overwhelmed the cars," I told the oohhing and ahhhing tourists.
The tours had been a big enough success that my boss let me out of the office to run them most days. They were a little gimmicky, but they attracted more tourists than we'd seen in a long time.
Jamie also ran some of the tours and was a crowd favorite. They were a born performer and really got into the role.
Today I was giving the tour on Gauge's train, and I couldn't wait for my break.
I'd moved in with Gauge, Rosie and Jamie, and certainly couldn't complain about any lack of attention, but I was dying to take a ride on Gauge today.
I was already thinking about how, on my break, I would slip into the control room and ride him until the whole island could hear his whistles.
I'm sure the island was starting to get used to it though, since the confusion about the midnight train whistles had quickly died down. This was good for me, since I certainly wasn't going to stop riding the rails at all hours of the night.
My trains certainly were reliable in getting me to my destination every night, usually multiple times a night.
I pointed out the last point of interest on the tour and hear a "Choo—Chooo." I'd gotten somewhat better at understanding their meaning. This one was easy, though—Gauge was as impatient as I was.
I laughed a little under my breath, saying, "That's all for now, folks. Please enjoy the rest of your ride. I have to go check in on the train, but I'll be back out before our journey finishes."
And after I do, I thought to myself with a little chuckle, before slipping away and into the control room.
It was wild to me that just a few months ago, I would've given anything to be a normal girl with a normal sexuality.
Now, I couldn't believe how foolish I'd been.
Everything good about my life now—the island, my job, and my trains—was because I was train-sexual, and I wouldn't change a thing about it.
