Chapter One — Alex

I look at the text again. It’s a pin. I zoom in, making sure I’m seeing things right. I definitely am. It’s a random location in the woods.

What the hell?

He texts me again. Dress warm.

That’s it.

Is this a game? I ask him.

Yes, he texts me back.

I don’t know if I’ve been imagining things, but his texts have been getting shorter and shorter. It seems like things have been off between us ever since I won that game of darts. Maybe he’s getting nervous that I’ve won so many games. Although, I’ve only won three. That can’t be it, can it?

Maybe it’s because he knows I’m not trying. He thinks I’m throwing the games because I’ve become too attached. I mean, he wouldn’t be totally wrong.

Or maybe it’s something else I’m not even thinking of?

Who knows? It’s hard to say anymore. All I know is something is off. But I don’t have time to figure that out right now.

I zoom in on the pin again. What could he have in mind?
