Chapter One — Callum

I didn’t know how that was gonna go, but even in my wildest dreams I didn’t expect it to go that well.

I guess there were two ways I was imagining it could go.

In one version, it was too much for Alex and she quits.

Which is good because then I don’t have to worry about this game or the million dollars. But bad because I lose her.

In the other version, maybe she doesn’t hate it. Or she hates it but forgives me. But at best, she tolerates it.

But in no world did I ever imagine she would be into it. That didn’t even cross my mind as a possibility. Yet, somehow… that’s exactly what happened. She was into it. Very into it. Have I entered the twilight zone?

And more importantly, where do I go from here? If that wasn’t too much for her, what will be? Will anything? I kind of doubt it.

Should I keep trying to push her to quit the game? Is that even possible at this point? And most importantly… is that what I even want?

Of course, there’s still the lingering question of my cofounder Trent, and whether Alex has been talking to him behind my back. The problem was never that she was talking to him, but that she was lying about it.

But I’ve started second-guessing myself.

I know Alex was texting Trent about something, but what if they were talking about something totally benign?

Alex lied about it, but maybe she had a good explanation for lying.

Maybe they were planning a birthday surprise or something for me.

The more I get to know her, the more I think I might have jumped to conclusions.

I need to get to the bottom of this once and for all.
