I sit there nodding as she explains to me how Trent convinced her that it would be a good idea to flirt with other men in front of me. I’m torn between frustration and understanding.

On one hand, Trent was kind of right. I have been slipping. She has been distracting me, and that made me a bit softer. Also, Trent was right in that seeing her with other men did fire up that competitive spirit in me. He knows me well. He knew that.

But at the same time, I’m pissed. Pissed that they went behind my back and concocted this little scheme. At the same time, it led to this whole revenge plot saga that just played out, which I have to admit was a lot of fun.

So how mad can I really be?

“Promise me you’ll never do something like that again. Okay?” I say.

She nods. “Okay.”

“Or else,” I add. She smiles.

“Okay, I’ll let you get some sleep now. Talk tomorrow.” I kiss her goodnight and leave.
