Chapter 19
Kiyomi POV
The weight of his body pressing down onto the mattress was an immovable reality that drove the cold from the room.
He didn't crush me. Mauricio held his mass suspended on his forearms, his broad shoulders blocking out the pale snowlight, creating an iron vault that sealed me away from the blizzard rattling the windowpanes.
His skin was fever-hot, radiating a dry, clean warmth that smelled of cedar shavings and salt.
My hands, splayed wide across the dense muscle of his chest, felt the violent, heavy drumming of his heart beneath his ribs. It battered against my palms with a steady, punishing rhythm that matched the rush of blood thrumming in my own ears.
His large, calloused hands slid up the mattress, his thick fingers sliding between mine.
He didn't ask. He threaded our fingers together, pressing the backs of my hands flat into the white pillowcase on either side of my head, pinning me beneath his reach. His grip was firm, unyielding, anchoring my trembling wrists against the cotton.
"Look at me, Kiyomi," he rasped, his voice a low vibration that rattled against my jaw. "Keep your eyes on mine."
I pulled in a shallow, ragged breath. My chest rose, the soft lace of my camisole brushing the bare skin of his sternum.
"I'm looking," I whispered.
His dark umber eyes held mine with an intensity so stripped of pretense that my throat closed on a dry swallow. The pupils were blown wide, black swallowing the brown, tracking the flush burning across my collarbones.
"Good girl," he murmured, his mouth descending until his lips brushed the sensitive line of my throat. "Just like that. You stay with me."
The rough scrape of his stubble against my neck drew a sharp, involuntary hitch from my lungs. A molten heat gathered behind my ribs, spreading through my blood in long, slow waves that softened the tension in my thighs.
Every defense I had spent years constructing—the academic distance, the clinical detachment, the fear of being managed or diminished—simply ceased to matter.
I didn't want the safety of my walls. I tightened my fingers around his, squeezing his calloused knuckles, lifting my hips a fraction of an inch to meet the heavy, solid line of his body.

He moved with agonizing, deliberate patience.
Mauricio released one of my hands, his palm sliding down my side, his fingers tracing the soft curve of my waist, the flare of my hip, before smoothing over the sensitive skin of my inner thigh.
His touch was burning, reverent, and demanding all at once, claiming every inch of flesh with slow, thorough certainty.
When he shifted his weight, settling between my parted legs, my breath caught in a sharp, breathless gasp.
"Breathe, sweetheart," he commanded softly against my cheek. His lips pressed a searing kiss to my temple, then to the corner of my mouth. "I've got you. There's nothing to be afraid of."
"I'm not afraid," I breathed, my hands sliding up to grip the thick, corded muscle of his shoulders, anchoring him to me.
He paused, his gaze searching my face in the dim amber glow of the room. He read the raw, unwavering resolve in my eyes, and a low, guttural sound rumbled from the depths of his chest.
Slowly, carefully, he drew me into him.
The physical threshold was a sudden, sharp fullness that made my knuckles turn white against his back, my nails digging into the dense muscle of his traps. My head tilted back into the pillow, a soft gasp tearing from my throat as my body adjusted to the overwhelming reality of his size.
Mauricio stopped instantly.
He held himself rigid, his forearms bracketing my head, his chest heaving with heavy, strained breaths as he fought for control. Sweat glistened on his brow, dripping onto the pillow beside my ear.
"Look at me, Kiyomi," he rasped, his voice strained, raw with effort.
I opened my eyes, blinking through the sudden sting of heat in my lashes.
He leaned down, his lips tenderly kissing away the moisture at the corner of my eye, his voice dropping into a thick, soothing rumble. "You're doing so good for me. So beautiful. Just breathe through it, baby."
The praise was a warm tide that swept through my limbs, melting the initial tightness in my pelvis. My hips relaxed against the sheets, my legs wrapping instinctively around his waist, drawing his heavy frame closer.
When he began to move, the pace was deep, measured, and unhurried.
He set a rhythm that demanded my absolute presence, his body shifting against mine with intoxicating friction.
Every stroke was deliberate, an unyielding declaration of possession that stole the air from my lungs.
He filled every corner of my senses: the scent of his skin, the gravelly rasp of his voice murmuring continuous praise against my mouth, and the crushing, sacred weight of his chest pressing into mine.
"That's it," he whispered, his lips claiming mine in a slow, possessive kiss as the cadence deepened. "Stay right there. Take all of it."
A violent, sweet tremor began low in my stomach, coiling tight, pulling my breath into rapid, hitched sobs against his jaw.
The pressure built to an unbearable height, my muscles locking, my fingers tangling in the sheets as a wave of overwhelming release broke through my blood, shattering my composure into a thousand trembling fragments.
Mauricio groaned, his head dropping into the crook of my neck, his rhythm faltering into a desperate, ragged drive as his own control shattered beneath the surface.

The quiet that followed was deep, absolute, and sacred.
Outside, the nor'easter howled against the brick siding of the carriage house, but inside the heavy charcoal quilt, the air was warm, thick, and still.
Mauricio lay over me for a long time, his full weight pressing me into the soft mattress, his breathing gradually slowing from a violent sprint to a deep, rhythmic cadence.
He lifted his head, his dark hair damp with sweat, and brushed a stray lock from my forehead with a tenderness that made my throat ache.
He rolled onto his side, pulling me with him until my back was curved against his chest, his massive arm wrapped around my waist, tucking me firmly into his body.
His large, calloused hand splayed flat across my lower abdomen, resting warm and heavy over the soft skin beneath my navel.
The heat of his palm seeped through me, grounding my exhausted limbs, unaware of the microscopic reality that had just taken root in the dark beneath his fingers.
I reached down, my smaller hand covering his, our fingers lacing together over my stomach.
The room was silent save for the hiss of the radiator and the steady, unbreakable beat of his heart against my spine.
I closed my eyes, pulling his cedar scent into my lungs, feeling an unshakeable, terrifying peace settle into the marrow of my bones.
I was no longer an observer standing behind a clipboard. I belonged here, anchored in the arms of the enforcer, wholly and irrevocably his.
