Chapter eight #3

After a few minutes, he pulled his lips from mine. We were panting heavily. I was literally breathless and lightheaded.

“Whew!” he exhaled.

“Did I do something wrong?” I asked as a feeling of rejection took over me.

He looked at me with such longing in his eyes. “Oh no, not at all. I pulled back because some things were happening down there and I don’t want to do anything to disrespect you or your late grandmother’s house,” he explained.

I felt better after hearing that. I appreciated his honesty and gentlemanly ways. However, I couldn’t calm the desire or flames that he had stirred up inside me no matter how hard I was trying.

“I appreciate you for doing that.” I had to fan myself because I was really hot. Now, I knew I was moving kind of fast, but I liked how Dimitri made me feel. “Can we go to your place?”

“Huh?” he asked with a confused look on his face.

“Can we go to your place?” I repeated. “I mean, if you live with someone…”

“Nah, I told you I’m grown. I live by myself. I just want you to clarify for me why you wanna go to my place.”

I leaned in and kissed him again. It felt so good. I felt better in this moment than I had since I arrived in New Orleans. I just wanted this feeling to continue, even if it was only temporary. I kissed him hungrily as his hands roamed my body.

“Please Dimitri,” I begged. “Can we just go to your place?”

My lips traveled from his lips to his neck. I knew it was too soon for me to be all over this man like this, but I had been through a lot over the past few days. This right here, with Dimitri, was making me feel good and I didn’t want to lose that feeling.

“Oh shit!” he hissed. “Hell yea!”

“Thank you. Please give me a few minutes to grab some of my things. I’ll be right back.”

I got up from the sofa and rushed to my bedroom.

I quickly grabbed the overnight bag that I had packed to come here when I left school, along with my dress and shoes that my auntie purchased for me to wear to the funeral.

Not that I expected to spend the day there tomorrow, but just in case I didn’t make it back here, I needed them.

After I packed my toiletries, I turned off the light and exited the room.

I grabbed my keys and said, “I’m ready.”

Dimitri smiled as he stood up from the sofa and walked over to me. As he gazed into my eyes, he asked, “Are you sure about this?”

“Yes, unless you changed your mind.”

“Not at all.” He took my things from me and escorted me outside. I locked the door and then followed him to his truck.

He unlocked the doors, opened the passenger door for me then put my things in the back of my seat. I climbed in and he shut the door. Damn! His truck smelled like that new vehicle scent!

He climbed in the driver’s seat and put the key in the ignition. “I love your truck! It smells so fresh and clean!”

“Thanks. I actually just bought it last month.”

“Very nice.”

I clicked my seatbelt, and he did the same before backing out of the driveway.

The smooth sounds of the Isley Brothers flowed through the speakers.

I sang along with Ronald Isley to the song Between the Sheets.

I found it kind of ironic that this particular song was playing right before we were about to get between the sheets.

“What you know about the Isley Brothers?” Dimitri asked with a sly grin.

“My grandmother used to listen to their music all the time when I was younger. What you know about them?” I teased.

“My grandfather and my parents used to blast their music every Saturday and Sunday.”

“Well, they all have great taste in music,” I said with a smile. “You live in a house or an apartment?”

“A condo.”

It took us forty minutes to get to his condo, but it was worth the drive because it was so nice. I didn’t know he was doing it like that!

“Are you renting or buying?” I asked.

“Actually, my grandfather passed away a couple of years ago and left me some money. So, with that money, I paid for a two- bedroom condo…”

“On Lakeshore Drive!!” I shrieked. “He must have left you a good amount.”

“He did.”

He parked his truck and hopped out. He came around to the passenger side and helped me out.

Then he opened the back door to retrieve my things.

I linked my arm through his and we walked to the front door.

He unlocked it and allowed me to enter first. It was cool in here but not cold and the place smelled really good.

I could tell by how immaculately clean it was that Dimitri was a neat person. It made me like him even more. He walked into a room, which I found out was the bedroom when I followed him in and put my things away.

“Do you need anything in your bag?” he asked.

“My toothbrush and toothpaste,” I said with a smile.

“I’ll just put it right here then.” He placed the bag on the foot bench at the end of his bed. “You want something to drink?”

I smiled seductively at him and replied, “No. All I want and need right now is you.”

I didn’t know where things were going to go between us after tonight, but I liked the way Dimitri made me feel. All I wanted was for him to make me feel like this for as long as he could.
